Part Three: The ConcertWhat can I say about the concert? For me it was like mulitplying the feeling you get seeing Hayley peform solo by five. Just incredible! All of the Celtic Woman are talented in their own rights. I just wish Meav could have done the show too. I saw Steven inside and we decided where to meet after the show was over and then we went to our seats, which I cannot tell you how amazing they were. I was nearly center stage in the third row and had my sister sitting next to me. She was SO excited to see the show.
The show began with
The Sky, The Dawn, The Sun which is a lovely piece, but oddly enough not too memorable. It's definately what comes after that makes an imprint on your soul. Lisa followed with
Caledonia, which happens to be one of my personal favorites. I've loved the piece ever since I saw it on the DVD and seeing it live was awesome. The feeling she puts into that song! Next came Mairead playing
The Butterfly which suits her really well. She seems to flit about the stage like a butterfly herself!
Danny Boy, The Prayer, and
Siul A Run came next. While they're all very nice pieces and done very well they aren't my favorite in the program. Next came the song made popular by Enya,
Orinoco Flow. I love this piece! They way the movements are done to look like the ocean- fantastic! It's not an easy song to sing or perform so well-done ladies! Mairead came back on to perform (wonderfully, I might add)
Granuaile's Dance, and then it was time for
Beyond the Sea. I may be a little biased here, but I think this song really suits Hayley's voice and the harmonies that are threaded throughout this song are simply gorgeous. Lisa came back on to sing
The Blessing with just David Downes on piano. This simple backing is effective and I love the way Lisa sings this!
Hayley came back on stage singing
Scarborough Fair with Orlagh on the Harp. What a brilliant duet! Hayley sang her heart out. It's evident this song is meant for her to sing.
Next came Chloe with
Vivaldi's Rain, which I was very impressed with. I must admit I wasn't highly impressed with it on her CD, but with her growing vocal talent she's growing in to this song. Finally,
Over the Rainbow and
Mo Ghile Mear were sung to finish off the first act.
I turned to Meredith to ask how she liked the show so far, and she just looked at me and said, "Can I get some food?" which made me laugh! I said "Sure" and we got up to leave our seats, upon which I asked, "How do you like it?" and, like I predicted, was loving it. Meredith got a pretzel and while we were standing there we found my dad, Steven and Alena and chatted with them until it was time to go back in.
I was a little apprehensive about Hayley singing
Dulaman because it the song really belongs to Meav, but I wasn't disappointed! Hayley really had fun with this song and it was a great opener to the second act. I'm secretly (though it's not so secret anymore!) that she'll record it someday.
Next came
Newgrange, and
The Softgoodbye.
The Last Rose of Summer I knew was going to be interesting. I knew Chloe was to sing the part Hayley sang in the DVD and Hayley was to sing Meav's part, but I didn't know how well that would go over. I must say the duet was fantastic in and of itself. Both girls are vocally very strong, but oddly enough I don't think their voices are quite suited to do duets with one another. Mairead came out and played an instrumental version of
The Last Rose of Summerto give Chloe a short break before she came out and sang
Nella Fantasia.
Next comes quite possibly my favorite song of them all:
At the Ceili. Again I was apprehensive about having Hayley performing Meav's part, but again I needn't have been apprehensive as she did wonderfully. Near the end of the piece Lisa came downstage and she was directly in front of me. I caught her eye and gave her a little wave (like she told me to do at the signing) and for some reason she started to laugh. I started laughing seeing she was laughing, and I'm SO glad she could finish the song.
Oh what to say about Mairead when she performs? It's absolutely incredible! She's puts so much feeling and energy into her pieces. I wonder how she got started moving about like that. She came out with
Shenandoah-The Contradiction, and then Orlagh followed with
Carrickfergus while accompaning herself on the harp. I wasn't very fond of this on the DVD, but seeing it live gave me a new appreciation for it.
Lisa sang
The Voice next and this lead in to the all group "power" numbers including
Sing Out, You Raise Me Up, Mo Ghile Mear, and
Spanish Lady. The energy being created here was almost insurmountable. There is one moment however that I will NEVER forget. At the end of
Spanish Lady, when everyone is giving their bows and waving Hayley spotted me in the audience, looked straight at me and gave me a little wave and giggled. Thank you Hayley, that made my night even more grand!
More to come soon!
