Hayley would have made a believeable Maria in West Side Story, though she'd have needed a black wig, and maybe a decent Maria in the Sound of Music, though I'm still thinking about that one. Was she wearing a wig for the Pure cover photograph? Looking at it now I do wonder if the hair is hers but until you made this comment I had not thought she had done anything but dye it. Does anyone know? I like those Pure photo shoots but her natural hair is so lovely it seems a shame to betray it. Peter

Hello Peter and everybody! There has already been some discussion about the colour of Hayley's hair on the 'Pure' photo-shoot, and I feel the subject is too old to resurrect now. Hayley is no longer 'Sixteen Going On Seventeen', and she is about to record her follow-up album to 'Odyssey'. However, this is only my personal opinion, so I won't mind if anybody revives this thread. I agree that Hayley would be perfect to play Maria in the Sound of Music, but she is already an established superstar of course. Never mind, whatever Hayley does in the future she will continue to 'Climb Every Mountain', the hills will always be alive with 'The Sound Of Music', and she'll always be on the list of 'My Favourite Things'! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest Wishes, Richard

Well, nothing says established stars can't return to the stage, in fact Daniel Radcliffe, of Harry Potter fame, will be returning to the stage this fall, and John Malkovich has said he prefers acting on the stage rather than in movies. Again, I have confidence it was the right decision for now.
I said that Hayley might need a wig for West Side Story on the grounds that she does not look very Hispanic, especially not now with her near-blonde locks, never mind the blue eyes and fair complexion. Of course the audience is supposed to suspend disbelief, but it's a lot easier to do that if Maria at least has the dark hair of a Puerto Rican and looks more like Maria rather than Hayley playing Maria. I am sure Hayley can do a decent accent, although the dialogue is certainly not the heaviest in the world.
Thinking more about it, Hayley probably also would make a decent Maria in The Sound of Music, though I must confess I am only familiar with the film and have never seen the play performed on stage. She'd also make a very good Eliza in My Fair Lady and a good Joanna in Sweeney Todd, though I blench at the idea of her lending herself to that kind of ugly show.

Hi Richard.
i was not aware of, and certainly would not wish to resurrect, an old thread regarding Hayley's hair colour in Pure.
I was merely responding 'on the hoof' to the observation made in the post to which I replied. It must/would have been a post long before my arrival, even discovery, of HWI.
Peter.

I believe I was the first one to post about the possibility of Hayley playing Maria in The Sound Of Music, way back on 4/10/05. Topic "Hayley in London West End Musical". On a different topic. Has any one seen the 19 or so Hayley related videos on www.youtube.com, go to "videos" and search "Hayley Westenra". I think i have previously seen most of them? Tony

And, Portia, where did you manage to bring West Side Story in from? That one has got me completely baffled. Keith. Haha, because both the musicals have a main character called Maria? I do recall that Hayley wanted to be Maria of West Side Story instead of Sound of Music. Either way, Scarlett Johansson will not be starring in either. Thank you Tony (and Portia and Keith). At last the plot unfurls. It seems that you and Portia were the guilty parties. The two Marias are mentioned. So I did see it on HWI after all. Now I can sleep.
