England v Germany is always terrific. One of the highlight games of every tournament I've seen them clash in. I have very fond memories of Euro 96, which was one of the best international games I've ever seen. Both teams usually play above themselves and I'm betting nothing will have changed, there. I'm thinking Germany will win as they're the better team right now, but 'any given Sunday' as they say Either way, I'm sure it'll be one to remember!

I just hope we have been practising penalties! Hi Dazza, England have been practising penalties every day for weeks. and the goalkeeper David James is studying videos of the opposing penalty takers: Dave

And this evening decisive matches for Spain. If Spain wins against Chile, most probably will end us group leader.

I just hope we have been practising penalties! Hi Dazza! I hope it will be a great and fair match and that there won't be a need for penalties. In a match like this both teams will and have to give their best so I really can't say who might have the better chances. You're right, may the best team win! Best wishes, Thomas i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif(... a little biased, sorry)

The Group Stage is over now with Spain and Chile going through and the last 16 is looking like this.... Sat 26th JuneUruguay v South Korea USA v Ghana Sun 27th JuneArgentina v Mexico Germany v England Mon 28th JuneHolland v Slovakia Brazil v Chile Tue 29th JuneParaguay v Japan Spain v Portugal This is where the real stuff begins, where the epic games happen. In my opinion the knockout stages of the World Cup is the absolute pinnacle of world football. There are some great fixtures and I can't wait for it all to kick off tomorrow. Joyce, I hope England play the Netherlands in this World Cup because that would mean we are both in the final! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifDazza

Some people are saying they wish we had met Germany later in the tournament but to win the World Cup you have to beat other teams at some stage so in the end it doesn't really matter. As far as meeting Germany in the World Cup goes, we seem to have a 20 year cycle: 1970. England lose to West Germany after extra-time. 1990. England lose to Germany on penalties. 2010. Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself ! (Of course we also have form with the Germans at Euro 96 when we also lost on penalties as Herr Beckenbauer keeps reminding us !) And last but not least I would like to wish Thomas a very happy birthday today. Thomas, may this weekend bring you everything you desire, EXCEPT A GERMAN VICTORY TOMORROW AFTERNOON !!!!![/color]

That was a great opening match in the 16's. Although the pitch looked just awful and the rained proved to slow the ball down. Uruguay are on to the quarter-finals ! They will meet the winner of the USA - Ghana match starting shortly Ghana have only managed two goals in group play. I wish them well, as they are the only African squad left. My prediction: USA 2 - 0 Ghana Joe

Sorry Joe, that things didn't quite go your way but the US put up a really good show at this year's World Cup. And as you suggest, keeping an African team in the competition will give the competition a real boost over there. The match is going to be be just as tough tomorrow between England and Germany... Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave, It was quite a thrilling (and long) match. Extra time = extra disappointing. Ghana played a great game right at kick off. I would have liked to have seen a yellow card for wasting time. The USA could've done with more strikers on the pitch. But we Americans certainly congratulate our side for four brilliant matches i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif Well done guys! Cheers, Joe

Last night on TV One News they showed an Octopus choosing a meal from 2 boxes marked Germany and England. This Octopus has a 80% success rate on picking winners. Sorry you England supporters it picked Germany.

Well I am ashamed to be an English football supporter this afternoon, a terrible performance by England.
Congratulations to Germany, a well deserved win.
