I just had a look at the May It Be video, and I've got only one word to say: wow. I think I like the song better now, I already loved it before though, but a lot more now haha, especially that the dancers did complete justice to the song. Loved it!
More of Hayley's songs should be used on these dance shows...

But unfortunately the judges ruined it by their negative comments about how slow the song was. I saw the top 10 dancers from that season on tour, and in the tour book, both Jeanine and Brandon listed this waltz as their least favorite dance! Or maybe their least favorite memory from the show. If weren't for the judges, they might not have remembered it in such a negative way, although they probably thought it was hard, too. Hopefully they still liked the song!

These days it's all about the show around it rather then the dance itself...
I followed the Dutch version of Dancing With the Stars, and the comments of the judges weren't always fair. They seemed to agree with whatever the audience voted. And mostly the audience is voting for the most popular person, whether he or she can dance or not.
And by the way...shouldn't a Waltz be slow?

Well, some judges can really do injustice... Though, I felt the dancers weren't bad at all! Beautiful lifts and choreography. No doubt that the negative comments & remarks by the judges may have given the dancers a real sour memory and associated Hayley's music with disappointing thoughts. And by the way...shouldn't a Waltz be slow? Haha, I know right! Cheers, Anshita

Not necessarily, a Waltz can be fast. Some of the most danced classical Waltzes by Richard Strauss are often rather fast.

Michal,
The waltzes you mean are probably the Vienna Waltz and or the Quick step.
The English waltz, as I heard from my brother (who was ballroom/latin dance teacher) is rather slow. He said it's hard to find the right song for that kinda dance, cause most 'slow' songs are still too fast.
Little off topic maybe....sorry for that!
I enjoyed this dance, whatever the judges may have said about it. It's never good enough. And especially dancing on Hayleys songs is very special...so shame on you judges!

This waltz in particular was a Smooth Waltz, as was the Dark Waltz one. I saw a comment somewhere that the song May it Be is actually used pretty commonly in ballroom dance competitions, so I imagine that's why the choreographer chose it! It definitely is a little slower than Dark Waltz, but I would think that the song and the dance were nice enough that nobody would be that bored by it!

Yes, I know right! Its disappointing, especially that the judges themselves didn't enjoy it. But indeed, it's special that they danced on Hayley's "May It Be"..
Though, I hope more of Hayley's songs would be used for these popular Dance programs...
Cheers, Anshita

Hello folks! Here's a clip from Ballroom Blitz 2012, Heat 107, featuring an unnamed couple dancing to Hayley's 'Dark Waltz': www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv56Kw5lNP4I don't think it's a TV show, but it appears to be American. Richard

Thanks, Richard! I've been thinking that Dark Waltz would be beautiful as an ice dancing program, too! It's the perfect length for an ice dancing free dance program. They often have changes of music in their programs, though; I don't think it's a requirement, but I think the judges just like it better for some reason. So I thought maybe the song Nocturne by Celtic Woman might be a good choice to go with it, to keep with the "dark" theme (Secret Garden's version isn't as dramatic, and the voice isn't up to par, IMO). I have a specific ice dancing couple in mind, too, and I have decided to write to them on their website about it. Their names are Kaitlyn Weaver & Andrew Poje of Canada. They are wonderful skaters, and they often choose some really good music for their programs. I just saw them live a few weeks ago when Skate America was held right in my hometown! I'm currently obsessed with them (if watching at least one of their programs on youtube every day isn't obsession, I don't what is). Don't be too pessimistic now; the music that Weaver & Poje chose last year was requested by an anonymous fan on their website! But, what are the chances they'd choose a fan's request again? Well, it can't hurt to try! The fact that they did once seems to mean they're open to suggestions, or at the very least, that they read the messages they receive on their website! My other favorite ice dancers, Meryl Davis & Charlie White, are Americans, and Olympic silver medallists, no less. I didn't choose them for Dark Waltz because... I chose a different Hayley song for them! I chose Amalia Por Amor! Now, that would be an amazing program! Contacting them has proven to be a bit more difficult, but I've managed at last! Seeing them live at Skate America helped a bit! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifThe reason I chose ice dancing is because the other skaters aren't allowed to have vocals with lyrics in their programs. Not to mention that ice dancing is my favorite form of figure skating. They don't do the jumps, but there's so much more variety of moves and choreography that they can do, so every ice dance program is different. We'll see if any of this comes to pass... I wouldn't count on it, though. None of my endeavors for Hayley have done any good so far!

Hi Libby, I suggest you go for a bit of instant gratification then, 30 to fifty THOUSAND listeners. E mail marty.lyricfm@rte.ie and ask him to play something for someone in your family or someone you know who is listening online in the States. They just love to hear from people in other countries. If I happen to hear the request I will let you know, or you can just check the music played lists on the days that follow. Don't over do it though, one email every couple of weeks let's him know you are still there, He is also quite partial to Josh Groban.

Comet, helping her popularity in Ireland would be great, but I'm still hoping for something "bigger", if you know what I mean. Something that might help Hayley in America and/or around the world. I suppose I could still try sometime... I don't know what I'd say. Sure, I am part Irish, and I like Irish/Celtic music, but that doesn't sound very unique, does it? But that's a little bit off-topic. Actually, part of the reason I want people to skate to Hayley's songs isn't just to help her popularity. Part of it is just for my own pleasure. I would just love to watch my favorite skaters skate to these songs, because it would be so beautiful to watch. Two of my favorite things all at once, beautiful skating, and beautiful singing/music. And of course, I have the far-fetched hope to watch them skate to it live, too! Not entirely impossible, since they like to send skating events to the NW, as they get huge turnout over here. Going back to the dancing video, I loved the lift that young couple did in their routine. It would be great as an ice dancing lift, too. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Hi Libby,
Thanks for posting the "Dark Waltz" dance sites. Have noticed that there are also several YouTube videos of line dancers using Hayley's "Summer Fly" to dance to, of which I feel sure that you are aware. Not quite the sophistication of the ballroom dancers though (and skaters!). It was a bit strange to see that "marylinedancer" has referred to her Belenkova posting as "Line dance show". Don't know whether all computers get the same suggested videos at the end of each video, but on mine I see a picture of Hayley sitting at the piano for "Talk To Me" at the end of your last video. Just think of all the publicity that Hayley gets from YouTube videos! Every one continues to spread her name slowly to greater and greater heights.
