I took the day off work to go to this lunch time concert at the Christchurch Art Centre. I am glad I did as the Rugby World Cup was also in Christchurch today at the Art Gallery. So at 6:30 am I was at the Art Gallery to get my photo taken with the cup
I got to the Art Centre about 12:30pm and had a look around the old University. Here is a photo of the Great Hall:-
The weather has certainly changed in Christchurch with it being much colder and overcast lately. So it was nice when I got into the Hall to see a fire going in the fireplace. The back of the Hall has a large stained glass window:-
The concert started at 1:10pm with only two band members coming onto the stage, Mike Ferrar the guitarist, and Peter Fleming the Double Bass.
Then Fiona came bouncing onto the stage with a big grin on her face.
The first number was a new one for them.It was by Reinhardt and was called Douce Ambience.
The second song was Nuage.
Tangissimo from the Fire and Light album was next (one of my favourites).
Peter and Mike
Another new song by Reinhardt originally for the guitar but adapted by Fiona for the violin was Si Tu Savais.
Lady Be Good a Gerswhin number was next.
Fiona's Celtic Lullaby This Land was about NZ.
Of course they had to play Memories Of Martin and Mary.
House By The Harbour is a fantastic song about her house by the Lyttleton Harbour.
They finished with another new swing song made famous by Billie Holliday called Them There Eyes.
It was great to catch up with John again and I had a quick chat with Fiona. She was missing Ian but in 10 days she will be back in London. I said I hope the volcano will let her get into London lol. Ian is currently working on an album for a 13yo girl with the usual classical songs like Ave Maria etc. Now I will have to wait for the end of the year to see Fiona again .
