Hello folks! As already mentioned in another thread, Fiona and Ian will be giving another lunchtime recital at St. James's Church, Piccadilly on Friday 18th June 2010 at 1:10pm. Admission is free, but you are invited to make a donation after the recital. Hi Folks Time to start arranging this trip! Who is coming? The concert starts at 1.10pm so I guess doors will be open from about 12.30pm onwards but I will check. I expect that some will be arriving long before then so probably the best arrangement will be to see you there! I am sure some refreshments will be sought afterwards. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifMartin

Hello Martin and everybody! I'll be there by midday at the very latest. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the area, so I suggest we have a late lunch or an early tea. We can decide where on the day. 23 days to go! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifSee you there, Richard

It's likely I'll be there. Not promising, but very, very, very likely. I'm free as a bird that day.

Hello Mark and everybody! Don't worry about all the scaffolding outside the church. Fiona raised the roof last time, so they're putting a new one on. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifSixteen days to go! See you there, Richard

Just to confirm that I'll be there, too. Bringing the other half with me (he loves the violin).

Hello folks! I've just got back from St. James's Church, having enjoyed another excellent recital by Fiona Pears on violin and Ian Tilley on piano. Most of the pieces were composed by Fiona herself, and they included three brand new works which I'll highlight in the following set list: - Tangissimo - F Pears
- Feeling - F Pears
- Lady Be Good - G Gershwin
- A Little Slice of Paradise - F Pears
- Turkish Fantasie - F Pears
- House by the Harbour - F Pears
- Whisper Waltz - F Pears
- This Land - F Pears
- Memories of Martin and Mary - F Pears
For me, the highlight of the recital was "A Little Slice of Paradise", a violin romance reminiscent of "The Gadfly" by Shostakovich, but I thoroughly enjoyed the whole recital. Sadly there were only about thirty people in the audience including our group from HWI, but Fiona told us afterwards that this made her more comfortable while she was performing her new compositions for the first time in London. Grant and Gordon took lots of photographs, so watch this space! I'm hoping there will be a much bigger crowd for Fiona's lunchtime concert at St. Bartholomew's Hospital on Friday 16th July. Please see this thread for full details. Richard

Hello everyone
I have to agree with Richard, it was an excellent recital made all the more enjoyable through Fiona's love and enthusiasm for what she does - particularly evident this afternoon.
The three new pieces were a real treat - slow and emotive and I hope we get a new album from Fiona before too long so everyone can share them - still not sure which was my favourite, but I may have to agree with Richard.
As Richard mentioned, the audience wasn't huge, but they were very enthusiastic and clapped loudly after each piece. Fiona seemed very happy anyway, which is the main thing.
We managed a chat afterwards and both Ian and Fiona were pleased to see Richard, Gordon, Martin, Nicola and partner and myself.
had a quick look at my pictures and think there should be a few worth posting and I will get onto that as soon as I'm able.
Best wishes Grant

Hi Grant, Richard & all
It sounds like a wonderful concert and I would have dearly loved to have been with you. I had planned to be but I have not been feeling so well over the last few days and in the end just wasn't sure about a trip to London today. It would be great to see some pics Grant & Gordon when you have a moment to post them. I am so glad that a reasonable number of people turned out for them.
Best wishes
Mark
