I just watched Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor "recreate" the final frame from the 1985 World Snooker Final, to mark the 25th anniversary of that great snooker final.
Taylor fought back from 8-0 down to draw level at 17-17, and force a final frame decider. The last frame seemed to last a lifetime, concluding well past midnight, with Dennis winning on the black ball.
I remember watching the last frame on a Black & White TV at home, cheering on my fellow Irishman. I remember cheering and jumping up and down when Dennis potted that final black, then burst downstairs to tell my parents that Dennis had won, in case they had missed it. They hadn't - they were also glued to the TV, cheering on Dennis.
Dennis, who had been living in England for a number of years, returned to his hometown of Coalisland in Co. Tyrone with the trophy a few days later. Thousands of people, my family and I included, turned up to get a glimpse of the new World Snooker Champion. It was an historic moment in Irish sport.
In 1985 the 'troubles' in Northern Ireland were still ongoing, and Dennis' victory seemed to gave the whole place a lift. Seeing this frame recreated has brought back some great memories of that final for me.
I just wondered if anyone has any memories of the '85 final?
