Battle of Britain Tour - General Thread

Hi everyone,

I'm pleased to tell you that at last, Hayley's "Battle of Britain 70th Anniversary" tour with the Central Band of the RAF, Band of the RAF College or (possibly) the Band of the RAF Regiment is today confirmed by the organisers Harmonic Artists (Bedlam Management).

There will be eight concerts as follows, each of which has its own thread in the new Battle of Britain tour sub-board, so if you wish to comment on a particular concert, please do so in the relevant thread and not in here.

Tue 06 Jul 2010 - Eastbourne Congress Theatre
Wed 07 Jul 2010 - Southend Cliffs Pavilion
Mon 12 Jul 2010 - Blackburn King George's Hall CANCELLED
Tue 20 Jul 2010 - Wolverhampton Civic Hall CANCELLED
Fri 23 Jul 2010 - Portsmouth Guildhall CANCELLED
Wed 28 Jul 2010 - Croydon Fairfield Halls
Sat 31 Jul 2010 - Cardiff St David's Hall CANCELLED
Mon 02 Aug 2010 - Nottingham Royal Concert Hall

I'm sure we will all agree that it's been worth the wait so now, let's spread the word and support these Hayley concerts (in support of RAF Benevolent Fund) to the max!

Many thanks to Wendy at Bedlam Management for providing an advance copy of the following official announcement, for publication today at 10:00 am BST (until then, sorry but we had to hide it).

BATTLE OF BRITAIN 70TH ANNIVERSARY UK TOUR

“THEIR FINEST HOUR”

Flying its way across the country this July and August, the Battle of Britain 70th
anniversary tour in support of the RAF Benevolent Fund, will feature ‘forces songbird’
Hayley Westenra and the Central Band, Regiment Band, and College Band of the RAF
performing a nostalgic evening of the most popular music from the war
years. The evening will include songs and music such as "We'll Meet Again, Dam
Busters, Aces High, 633 Squadron, Nimrod, and Those Magnificent Men in their Flying
Machines", and will be accompanied by inspirational speeches from the time,
poems, and narration from a member of Dame Vera Lynn's family, RAF Squadron
Leader Tom Jones.

Speaking about the tour Hayley said

“It is a great honour and privilege to be singing at the Battle of Britain concerts. To be involved
in commemorating the sacrifice and courage of the men and women who fought to protect
freedom is a wonderful opportunity. I am really looking forward to the concerts which will
undoubtedly be very special occasions”

This moving tribute to our servicemen and women will allow audiences throughout the
UK to step back into British history and celebrate the bravery, sacrifice and freedom that
helped define generations to come.

Just a quick reminder that as of 10 am today, the entire Battle of Britain tour is now confirmed by Bedlam Management and two concerts have been added to the list - Portsmouth and Nottingham.

Thanks! This sounds really exciting! The song choices sound very interesting. It will be a great chance to hear Hayley sing some very new and different material!

Thanks Dave, the tour looks very promising and a complete contrast to Hayley's normal format. It obviously builds upon Hayley's successful appearance at the Festival Of Remembrance last year.

It will be interesting to guage the average age of the attendances since the concert format will undoubtedly appeal to the older generations. I hope however that parents and grandparents will bring their children and grandchildren along.

Hi Jim,

It's a kerning issue, 2 letters blurring together on a reduced-size poster (to fit the forum). The original poster is 3 times wider, uncompressed, and is fine.

I did make a minor correction when copying the press release to the forum though.

Oh Wow, finally confirmed !!!

Now i have to organize something to attend at least one of the concerts....i was thinking of the Wolverhampton one, but Nottingham looks better..............
