Hi everyone,
It seems that many forums are currently experiencing diffuculty in that pages are only partially opening. For the past half an hour, I see the banner, buttons and background but nothing else unless I refresh the page several times until it eventually loads fully. This problem has been reported to Proboards by the admins of many other forums and is currently being investigated. Hopefully, normal service will be resumed soon. If it isn't, perhaps our Admins would endeavour to provide updates.

UPDATE: Proboards are now saying the problem has been identified but not yet resolved. Hopefully, it soon will be!

Hi Roger,
Looking at what firefox reports it is loading the adverts that is causing the problem. It loads most of it, then waits a couple of minutes for something called process.advertangel.com.
I've been reduced to using my RISC OS machine with the Netsurf browser that doesn't seem to be affected by this.
Firefox and Google Chrome both exhibit this problem.

Thanks Martin D. Apparently, Proboards are using avertangel.com to display adverts and, according to one report, their servers are down and they have been the cause of problems in the past. If that is the case, the adverts fail to appear and, until they do, the remainder of the page cannot load.
Dave or Joe: There is a very slim chance that I could have a temporary solution. It seems that only those forums which display adverts are being affected. I seem to recall that when I stood down from the team, there were still seven ad-free credits sitting there waiting to be applied. If you apply them now (to February) it just might solve the problem until such times as Proboards sort it out fully. I can't guarantee it will work but it may be worth a try. (If it does work, presumably it will only solve the problem for members but not to guests.)

Hi Roger and all,
I only see these issues when I (occasionally) switch off my advert blocker that's integral to my firewall but I have now, and it looks like Proboards have switched them off, hopefully until they've fixed it.
Proboards aren't the only forum or website to suffer from problems caused by Ad-serving companies, it's becaoming a regular problem across the Internet. Very annoying, GRRRR!!!
Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave and all,
Indeed, Proboards have confirmed that ALL ads on all forums have been temporarily disabled. Sounds as though my fix may have worked but now isn't necessary!

Hi Sandy, HWI has no control over the ads appearing in the forum, they are controlled entirely by Proboards and the ad companies they use. We (as a forum) are not permitted unilaterally to interfere with them in any way. If (big if) the virus has been spreading through ads displayed on Proboards it is a matter for them to sort out, as clearly, they are trying to do right now. Other major forums and forum groups have been affected in this way too, over the last few months, so if it's happened like that, it's not an isolated problem. I should add that my brother, who lives a couple of hundred miles away from me has never looked at this forum in his life, he acquired that nasty virus in mid January and he's still wrestling with the consequences of it! Cheers, Dave still happily virus-free. For now!

Hi Sandy,
Don't think it came from HWI. I suspect that site where it came from was the second "How well do you know Hayley" quiz which I think Jillian set up. That's the only site that I visited from work that I didn't visit from home also that day.
I don't intend to go back there to find out!

ProBoards seem to have it sorted at the present time. The ad-free credits that you purchased were applied in September 2009 as a tribute to your legacy. I am endeavouring to purchase the necessary ad-free credits for April on the occassion of Hayley's birthday month. Thanks again, Joe

Thanks folks ! I have been calling the puter some nasty names lately I thought it was just my broadband or my computer.. I have been disconnecting and resetting hubs and modems and routers and thingys to try and solve the problem, a lot of the whatchamacallits have tiny reset buttons on them Bit Defender seems to be keeping things clean though, I hope...
