It was a lovely evening in Lyttleton, the home suburb of Fiona. Tonight's concert was in Fiona's favourite theatre and it was packed.
We were in for a fantastic concert tonight as Fiona is really playing very well and her new songs are great. Also it helps that the Double Bass player, Peter Fleming, was well again i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif.
Harbour Light Theatre (old movie house)
Fiona came on in a red dress with white polka dots and as usual bare feet lol.
The band started with one of the new songs, Feelings followed by the Gerswhin song Lady Be Good (PS I got the wrong title at the Akaroa concert, it pays to have a notebook handy .
The next two pieces were really good. They were two Romanian Dances by Bartok. This is what she played to a blind Romanian Bear last year and it loved it. Incidently the documentary filmed about her trip to the Bear Sanctuary will be released later this year so keep an eye on Fiona's website for the release date.
The next new song was Nelson Fun about the Nelson Jazz Festival.
This Land is another great celtic/country song.
The Irish Overture was a new song I haven't heard before and it was fantastic. I later told Fiona she had to put these new songs on her next album and she said she was trying them on us first and with the enthusiastic reception each song got she will have to put them on (hint hint Fiona lol).
Everyone loves the circus tune Whisper Waltz including the Trombone player in the audience ( or so Fiona says lol).
The last song of the first half was the fast paced Sabre Dance.
Second Half opened with Fiona and Ian playing More Than A Moment about their engagement.
Then the band played Tangissimo, House By The Harbour and I Found A New Baby.
Love this lighting effect by John it gives a Black and White effect in the photo.
The next new song is set in a Red Light District of Japan when the band visited a Pool Hall and is fast becoming a crowd favourite and is called Fire In The Orient ( lots of different violin techniques used).
Of course we had to have Memories Of Martin and Mary.
My favourite new song was Cathedral Tango.
The last song was Tchavolo Swing.
Of course with much loud clapping and stomping we got the band back for an encore.
Czarist was a great fast paced song which we clapped along to.
Then with more loud noise we got them to come back again. Fiona wasn't too sure if we wanted a fast paced song or a more mellow one so we asked for both lol and Fiona and the band did i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif.
First was Dark Eyes followed by The Willow Tree. Half the audience gave the band a standing ovation and I think Fiona was getting a bit emotional lol. I thanked Ian and Fiona for the best performance I have seen ( it helps the band was complete at this concert) and said I will see them at Hanmer Springs next Saturday i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif.
