Hi everyone
Thanks Richard & Martin for your reports. It certainly was something different and to quote Hannah from Bedlam, "rather alternative". The Arts Club is a very grand building and as soon as you enter the lobby, you get that feeling that I imagine you might get when entering a private club! We had an hour in the bar before the first performer, which as Richard says was rather busy. However, at 8pm, Steve Abbott announced that the first performance was about to start and we made our way into what I can only describe as what looked like the sitting room of a large country house. The grand piano occupied one corner and an assortment of chairs were set out in a semicircle around it. It was all very informal and I have to say I very much enjoyed it.
Once the main two performances were over, we went back to the bar, where we were able to chat with Steve & Kathryn from Bedlam for a while. I knew that it wouldn't be long until Raven were to perform, as Steve suddenly set out a single chair with a glass of water under it in the middle of the bar area - I guessed for Rachel and her cello!
The girls suddenly appeared and Steve announced that they would play amongst the audience, which was quite unusual. We were standing very close to Stephanie and I found it fascinating to be able to watch so close up. They were not amplified and the sound was quite different to that which we are used to hearing when they are on stage. I loved the informal laid back and quite intimate performance that they gave. My daughter Louise was truly impressed, this was the first time that she has seen Raven and for her, their performance was the highlight of the evening.
By the time Raven had finished their encore, it was just after 10pm and Louise and I decided to leave at that point so that we could catch an earlier train. On the way out, I bumped in to Raven and was able to congratulate them on yet another wonderful performance. I also commented on the fact that it seemed strange to be leaving without seeing them at the stage door!
Anyway, we arrived home just before midnight having thoroughly enjoyed the evening. My thanks to martin, Richard and Peter for your company.
Best wishes
Mark
