Hi Dave and everyone Went into town this afternoon and had a look to see where I could find "Winter Magic". Boots and WHSmith (who always used to sell some CD's in Derby) now don't sell any at all! Next stop HMV where I fared better. They had it displayed in three places. In the chart section it was placed at No.55; they also had it displayed in 'gift ideas' although it was positioned at bottom right and easy to miss as there was another stand at right angles to it! They also had it upstairs in the classical section with Hayley's other CD's. Best wishes Grant

I've checked a few more HMV stores in London. Winter Magic seems to be readily available in most if not all branches. Richard

Thanks guys, I've just phoned the smallest HMV in the area, in Winchester. They have 9 in stock at £10.99 so costing a pound or two more than online and what supermarkets would have charged. I am now certain that all HMVs will have it in stock.
I'm more inclined to support real music shops like HMV now than I was before, I can see now what the rise of supermarkets has done, more even than online. It's wiped out every 'real' record shop in my local area (catchment area population up to 150,000)
We will soon find out now how many actual fans Hayley has in the UK because nearly everyone buying Winter Magic will have had to go out of their way to get it (including visiting HMV). It will almost eliminate the casual buyer this time round.
Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave,
Yes, I too might have to go to HMV, which is in the centre of Leicester, a place I rarely venture although it is only 2 miles from my home. There is a Borders a mile or so the opposite way, which I might try first. But it will have to wait until Saturday.
I agree with your comments about the supermarkets, I think it was part of a rant of mine that you modified. They have done huge damage by simply selling the top 50, and taking most of the business away from shops that had a much wider selection. The end result of this is that the top 50 is all you will be able to buy, and the record companies will not bother to record anything they don't think will make the top 50. As I have already said, in the town where I work, Rugby, you can't buy anything outside the top 50.
At least online you have a vast selection to chose from, going back to the year dot. And they get included in the charts, so it's not as bad for the industry and the customer, even if it does hit the record shops.
If Winter Magic fails, has it occurred to you that it could be Hayley's last album? She might not be allowed to make another. If they can't get her into the supermarkets, they might decide it isn't worth doing. Fortunately, her success in Taiwan might save her, but future albums might not be released internationally. That's why this mess-up over Winter Magic, and the lack of promotion in general, is such a disaster.
We are looking at a world where all female singers will sound like 5th rate clones of Aretha Franklin, and where the flamboyance of their performances is more important than the music. Is that really what we want? I think this has been an eye opener, and that anyone who loves music should never again buy a record from a supermarket. We might miss the convenience, but i for ne would miss the choice of music more.

Hi Martin, I don't think Hayley is going anywhere. As you said she has a fan base in Asia and also selling power in New Zealand. Additionally, she is a strong force as a live act. All this fuss is making me glad that supermarkets in Australia don't even sell CDs! Just a range of groceries that I'm told pale in insignificance to the variety available in the UK. I worked for a food company for a little while and a new staff member from the UK came over with packaging from fresh 'ready made' products like meals and salads and my jaw almost hit the floor! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif All looks so yummy! Problem is that because Australia is so big, you can't make that sort of stuff and transport it before it goes bad. Anyway..... Back on topic.

Why would anybody buy a copy of
Winter Magic without the beautiful
On the Wings of Time on it,
This is one of the most beautiful of ALL of Hayley's songs EVER.
It is the bonus track on the UCCL-9061 special edition from cd.Japan.
Why they put it as the last track is beyond comprehension

Hi Paul,
I agree, I think that the sheer quality of Hayley's voice on that song is the best I have ever heard on a recording. That song alone is worth the price of the album. It is last and a "bonus" I think because it is not about winter or Christmas,

Well it looks like Japan might have Winter Magic well displayed and promoted. I was over there sightseeing for a week, and only managed to visit one CD store in that time, (which was in a train station, I think in Tokyo) and I saw this display: bit.ly/8Tf87XGo Japan!! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifSorry I was going to post the photo here, but it's too difficult to resize and compress (I gave up).
