Hi all, Not sure if this is a repost... Just came across an interview archive on CBC radio website, one of the featured interviews was from Hayley back in February: February 28, 2006. Hayley Westenra is only 18 years old, but is already a "singing sensation". Her albums have gone platinum 12 times over in Australia and in her native coutnry, New Zealand. She is in town this week to perform at Southam Hall and dropped by our studio to talk with Rob.

cbc.ca/ottawa/media/audio/allinaday/20060301J28_HAY.ram Allen I hadn't come across the February CBC interview before. It was delightfully Hayley, fresh and informal (is she ever formal, one might ask?) and delightfully mature schoolgirlish; or perhaps 'young woman nowhere near being overly serious yet'!. It was interesting to hear her confirm that she really does not like fences around things. She just wants to sing what ever category the song fits into simply because it is a good tune and/or the lyrics are meaningful. In short, the brand image is 'Hayley Westenra' and what she feels like at any moment. I too hate classification, one should simply 'be'. For which reason I am the one person in the street marketing analysts wish they hadn't stopped! Their tick boxes never have the right titles to fit me. And i refuse to adapt my answers to fit their boxes! I guess Hayley might feel the same. Peter

Hi Peter, That was a great find! well done! I have listened to it through twice now and It was as you say, a very relaxed interview, Hayley talked about one day having more time on her hands to discover New Zealand, It's good to hear that she is aware of the need to relax a bit more. She was more composed than some of her earlier interviews this year which is a sign of the growing confidence Hayley has in herself. thanks again for this great piece, its the first time I have heard her sing POKER-RACK-A-RAY-ARNERER !!!! Peter Hi Peter, I think that pretty much sums up the whole classical-genre, something that doesn't quite fit into classical and not quite pop music yet. Just last week, I started working on a paper on "modern" methods of advertising and promotion for a course. Apparently the trend, according to some journals, is that people don't want to be fit into typical stereotypes anymore and they want to be different. So, you're just being less like a baby-boomer and more like people in the younger generations If this trend continues, the whole classical-crossover genre will only become more popular and Hayley will be in the forefront of it. No, I'm not working for any advertisers so your secret is safe Allen

Hello Allen and everybody! I finally got round to downloading a Real Player and I've just listened to this delightful interview. The thing that strikes me most of all, comparing this one with all the others I've heard during the last 2½ years, is Hayley's remarkable stability. Her personality and her attitude towards her career and her way of life have not changed the slightest bit in all that time. Her singing voice is more mature now and she is much more experienced, but she is still exactly the same girl that I first met at the Fairfield Hall in Croydon on 1st October 2003! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifMany thanks for posting the link. Best Wishes from London, Richard
