Hi Rodders,
The circus tent is still referred to as the Big Top in the U.K. and in truth marquee is the usual term for large tents. I got into the habit of calling them tents when I was an apprentice, many years ago. One of my Friends father owned a company that made and hired out marquees and we were sometimes rather derogatory. The company is still going strong and in the hands of, I believe, the great grandson of the founder.

Hi Jim Enjoy the concert tonight and I think you are the only HWI representative going. I look forward to your report. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI asked Tim Evans last night if the songlist would be the same as that for the Winter Magic tour and he said pretty much except that there will be no schools choirs. He was hoping that the "tent" would be warm! Martin

Hi Martin,
Thank you I am sure I will love it. I am hoping it will be the same format as the Cathedral/Church concerts. From the reports of the previous concerts the word Magic is an understatement.
I have arranged to meet myself at about 6.30 outside the venue.
Having looked at the site on Wednesday I do not think it is practical to see Hayley before the concert.

It must be a once in a lifetime experience and amazing thrill for the children. The Marlow web site says that the heating is very good in the 'tent'. Jim

I'm a little confused as to how they determine which of these concerts are part of the WM tour and which ones aren't. If they're all Christmas concerts, what's the difference? I imagine the concert's still going on right now, so I hope you're all enjoying yourselves immensely!

Hi Libby and All
This was to all intents and purposes a WINTER MAGIC concert.
WINTER
Having visited the site last Wednesday and seen that there was a fence some 20 to 30 metres from the entrance meeting Hayley before the concert was impractical and unfair. In the event the weather at the time was thunder, lightening, rain sleet and hail.
We left home at 4.30 pm and arrived in the car park at 5.01 pm. The rain stopped as we approached the car park. With an hour and three quarters to go before they were due to open the doors we decided to walk the ten minute walk into the city centre. After a short walk around Canterbury we stopped for a coffee and warm up in Starbucks. Having sat for half an hour over our drink we decided to walk back to the Marlowe.
THE MAGIC BEGINS
On our arrival back at the venue we are greeted by a security guard who informs us that the doors will open 25 Min's early at 6.20. We can hear Haley doing her sound check. A promise of things to come. It looks like they will let us in after the sound check. Bang on time the gate are opened and we allowed to enter the bar area of the arena. The sound check continues and although we are not allowed into the seating area the entrance is open. I stand for what seemed like a couple of minutes but was in fact a quarter of an hour transfixed. All goes quite and Hayley leaves the stage. Time to visit the bar.
At precisely 7.30 Tim Andy and Raven take to the stage. Hayley quickly follows. The photo's of the silver/white dress have looked amazing. They do not do it justice Hayley was a vision.
to be continued

The MAGIC continues.
The set list is the same as the main tour. The only variation being due to there being no choir at the Canterbury concert.
Veni Veni Emmanuel I have known this for many years and until last night it was never a favorite of mine. It is now.
The Little Drummer Boy My memories of this are as a pop song with the drumming being the main feature. With Raven and the boys doing the accompaniment I did not miss the drums. Hayley's vocals and the band made this a far superior version.
The Christmas Song I have heard many versions of this. But that voice takes it to a whole new level.
RAVEN
To say I enjoyed treir performance would be an understatement. I love them more each time I see them. The highlight of their first set must be Bolero.
Ave Maria Another stunning performance of a Hayley song I will never tire of.
Prayer The acapella start to this always grabs me and last night was no exception. Another Hayley standard that no other version can hold a candle to.
The Little Road to Bethlehem. Not a song I was very familiar with. I am sure that this will become a firm favorite.
Corpus Christi Carol. When you hear Hayley sing this it is easy to see why it has stood the test of time.
Interval
RAVEN
Raven were due to perform 3 items in this set. The first was wonderfully performed. The second was just reaching its climax when Rachael's bow fell apart. Steph, Natalie and Kirsty continued for the last few bars amid fits of laughter. The audience loved it it could not have gone better had it been rehearsed.
Raven quickly exited and a bewildered Hayley returned to give us:-
River. With shoes removed Hayley played and sang as only she can.
I Know You By Heart. Joined on stage by Andy Hayley introduced this telling about Eva and then produced the most moving rendition.
Raven returned to play what should have been their third piece in the second set. Before Hayley left stage she asked Rachael what happened "Sorry I got a bit carried away". Was the reply to a huge round of applause and laughter.
O Holy Night. A firm favorite of both Rene and myself we had heard Hayley sing this with Blake some two years ago at Croydon and loved it. This with Hayley on her own was streets better.
Sleigh Ride. Out came the bells and we were treated to beautiful fun rendition.
Peace Shall Come. Her own composition and one she should be very proud of.
Love Came Down At Christmas. Not one I knew but one I look forward to hearing more and more of.
The Encore
Silent Night & Wish you all a Merry Merry Christmas. Both delivered in true Hayley style. I could have sat there another two hours but sadly that was the end.
There was no signing at the end and therefore no photos.
If you are in the UK and have not seen one of the Winter Magictour please get yourself a ticket. You will not be disappointed.
I am sorry there are no photos but as I said there was no signing and in th concert I had a back light shining straight down my camera lens and nothing came out.

Hi Jim Many thanks for your report and the set list which was the same as Banbury except for the addition of "Prayer" and no choir. Glad you enjoyed it (knew you would ) and I hope Hayley was warm! Martin

Sorry for the delay in my report. I got to the interval and then got " web page expired".So I now have to start again. Hi Jim Have a look for a little program called NotePad, Start > Programs > Accessories > Notepad Nothin fancy but it does the business. All you need do is create a directory to save them in, so you know where they disappear to when you save them.. and computers were supposed to make our lives simpler... Yeah right !
