Just thought Hayley fans may be interested to hear that she will be appearing with Lee Mead at a Children In Need charity event at Longleat on 17 September. It sounds like a fun event! Lee and Hayley will be leading the crowd in a recording of Paul McCartney's 'Frog Chorus' for a charity album. Hopefully they'll also get the chance to sing something else as well - maybe their duet 'When the Stars Go Blue' from Lee's recent album?

Talented young musicians at a Bath school have recorded two Beatles' tracks for a charity CD and filmed a music video at the world-famous Abbey Road studios.

Pupils at Kingswood School were chosen to work on the forthcoming Bandaged Together album for Children in Need and impressed the organisers so much that they were invited to take part in the video as well earlier this week.

The group of around 60 musicians recorded All You Need Is Love and Goodnight, providing the backing track for a whole host of vocalists including Corsham-based Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, Box-based musician Peter Gabriel, former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman and Bryan Ferry.

Year 11 student Michael Kenney described it as a "once-in-a-lifetime experience".

The 15-year-old said: "I know everyone can go the studios and walk across the zebra crossing, but to actually be inside the studio recording your music was just fantastic.


"It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us."

He said of the celebrities: "They were all really friendly and there was a bit of a rush at the end with people trying to get autographs.

"When we finished recording everyone was jumping around whooping and cheering."

Classmate Magnus Mulvany, who played the saxophone, said: "It was quite amazing to think we were sitting in the room where so many great film soundtracks and orchestral recordings were made.

"The acoustic in the studio was fabulous, and it was brilliant to hear our orchestra with all of the celebrity singers and other musicians.

"It's not every day you get Nick Mason and Bill Wyman in our rhythm section."

The school was asked to take part in the CD after a successful concert at Green Park Station during the Bath Festival back in May.

The school's 75-strong symphony orchestra and 80-strong junior choir have also been asked to accompany singers Hayley Westenra and Lee Mead and broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan and his TOGs (Terry's Old Geezers or Gals) at a massed Children in Need recording of the Frog Song at Longleat.

The students were at the Abbey Road studios on the day Sir Terry announced his retirement from his popular Radio 2 breakfast show.

Kingswood's director of music Richard Mainwaring said: "It was an amazing day.

"The pupils performed fantastically and enthusiastically celebrity-watched throughout the session.

"The staff were so proud of the pupils' achievement, and I'm sure it is an experience they will remember for a very, very long time."

Send-off song for Sir Terry Wogan

Fans of veteran broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan will join together in huge numbers to record a song in a poignant send-off to the star, it has been emerged.

Sir Terry announced last week he was to quit his Radio 2 show after 27 years, telling his listeners: "I'd rather leave while we're in love."

The 71-year-old, who has the UK's most listened-to programme, will be replaced by his one-time breakfast show rival Chris Evans.

The broadcaster has attracted a huge army of fans known as Togs (Terrys Old Geezers and Gals) during his long-running stint on the show.

Huge numbers of Togs are expected to come together this week to perform a one-off song raising money for charity.

On Thursday they will perform a version of We All Stand Together at Longleat House in Wiltshire for the album Bandaged TOG-ether to raise money for Children in Need.

Hellen Bach, the Tog behind the attempt, said: "There is still time to register and feature on a historic recording.

"It is a one-off opportunity to say thanks to Terry for all the laughter and music down the years and look after the children in the process."

The open air recording session, hosted by Lord Bath, who owns Longleat, will feature West End sensation Lee Mead, soap star singer Hayley Westenra and Irish singing legend Red Hurley.

Sir Terry will be sending a special video message to the assembled throng from his London studio.

Ha, ha! Perhaps the writer of that article knows something we don't! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif It would be fun for Hayley to have a guest spot on a soap wouldn't it? I know she was on American Dreams -- but that was more just a performance spot, rather than a little storyline, wan't it?

Celebrities to record Children in Need song at Longleat

Celebrity singers will be heading to west Wiltshire on Thursday to join Sir Terry Wogan’s fundraising choir to record a Children In Need special.

The likes of Lee Mead, star of Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat, and singers Hayley Westenra, Clare Teal and Red Hurley, will perform alongside hundreds of members of Terry’s Togs (Terry’s Old Geezers and Gals) at Longleat Estate, near Warminster.

The song, ‘TOG Chorus Sings the Frog Chorus’, will be recorded as part of a fundraising album raising money for the well-known children’s charity.

Norman Macintosh, who is heading up this musical money spinner with Hellen Bach, said: “We are anticipating over 2000 TOGs from all over the UK and even abroad to join in this mass ‘Frog Chorus’ recording at Longleat.

“It is probably one of our madder ventures and I’m sure the Producer of the CD, Adrian Chivers, is cursing the day Hellen and I came up with the concept of a mass chorus as part of the album.

“We’re hoping that it will be fabulous for BBC Children in Need though which is ultimately what this is all about.”
