Hi Dori, Isn't that the Japanese album, which is meant to be internationally released? (Which means it isn't a Japan only album) There is already a track-listing on that thread, but I'm not sure if it's final yet. There is the one song "On The Wings of Time", which I think is only going to be on the Japanese version. Now I'm more confused than I was earlier... But I think I'm right.. ? Jono

No, Jono, it's the Christmas album, of which there will be a Japanese version and a UK version, at the very least. And that's all we know! The new song is only a bonus song for a limited edition, and it's not a Christmas song, so it doesn't really count. It most likely will not be on any other versions. As I keep saying, though, I hope it will be on her other new album, on all versions.
Speaking of versions, I wonder if Decca will release a U.S. version. It would be horrible if they didn't. They might not think it's worth it, but I think they should at least try. People like Christmas albums! Josh Groban's most successful album (and the best-selling album of 2007!) was his Christmas album. Not that he was unknown before that, but there are still people who don't know who he is. His Christmas album definitely inreased his popularity, though.
If a Hayley Christmas album was promoted or advertised to the U.S. somehow, they would certainly want to buy it. At least if PBS would advertise it, the Celtic Woman fans would want it, I'm sure.
I won't be surprised if they don't release a U.S. version, but I will be disgusted that they aren't giving us a chance.

The "Christmas Album" is what we have all been talking about in the "New Japanese Album" thread...isn't it? And we can hope that the bonus song will be on her next international album...but I personally doubt it. It seems like it is a song that will be Japan only..

I understand your complaint, but it may not be financially viable if it is not certain that America will pick up, plus the fact that Hayley cannot promote in three places at once, especially as somewhere as big as America. It's in her best interest to promote in the UK. True, the UK are not as big on Christmas albums (even Enya's Christmas album didn't chart as high as I thought it might) but there are Hayley fans here that are sure to buy it. She's also doing the tour here. I can only imagine how frustrating it is to have an artist you love barely have a prescence in your country. Still, be honoured that your country is not a push over, and when someone finally breaks it, it really does mean something!

The more I think about it, the more sure I feel that there is some overriding legal reason why her Japanese Songs can't be released worldwide. This looks like another one of the same ilk. So I think if we want it, we will need to get the Japanese version of this album. Martin

How is it Japanese if it's in Maori and English? I am still so confused about this song. She sings songs in Italian, Maori, and German on her albums, so why can't a Japanese song be included, sometime, too? The Italians and Germans aren't selfish about their songs, so why does Japan have to be (if what you say is true) ?

Hi Libby,
I wouldn't say the Japanese are 'selfish' about their songs, I'm just not sure if there's a market for Japanese songs in the west. Don't forget Italian and German are familiar western languages, and Maori is Hayley's country and ancestor's native language, so its suitable. I'm personally not sure why (if they won't) include Japanese songs on a normal UK album for international release. We will have to wait and see, I guess.

Hi Libby, I don't think Martin meant the songs can't be released on her other albums just because they are 'Japanese' songs....I'm sure it would have been fine to record those particular songs for her international albums. What he meant (I think) is that there are probably legal issues which constrain them from being re-released on international albums....and I agree, there probably are at least "legal boundaries" which make it difficult or costly, regardless of the fact that it is still under the "Universal Music" label. After hearing HSJS for the first time, I think it is a CRIME to not be released to the world! Dori, I kind of agree with you that the market for Japanese music in the west may be smaller than the market for other European languages...but I think times are definitely changing! If one of her international albums had a Japanese song on it people would be Hayleywowed x10. I also agree that the Xmas album HAS to be released here! Libby, I thought you claimed you know everything there is to know (so far) about this album/song I believe it has Maori and English lyrics, but because it was made in Japan (and inspired by Japanese art), Hayley decided to give it a Japanese name...correct me if I am wrong. (This is all from memory of what I have read) I recall a post by Roger on this thread that I was also going to reply to...but it seems to be gone now...strange Cheers Jono

Hi Jono,
Yes, you are right, that's exactly what I mean. It makes no sense otherwise, and I agree, it is a crime. This is some of Hayley's best work, and it should be heard everywhere.
I even mentioned this to Hayley when she was kind enough to sign my copy of HSJS, and she said that it was her reecord company that made those decisions not her. She didn't elaborate on why her record company would shoot themselves in the foot in that way, instead telling me she was working on a follow up (which became HSJS2). Of course I was very interested in that. So it seems likely that her record company had some very goo resons for restricting these albums it that way that we are not aware of.

Oh yeah, right, I don't know everything. Well, I read the same thing you did, but it just wasn't quite clear to me. So, it's a song Hayley made up all by herself, that she wrote in English and Maori (I didn't know she knew that much Maori!), and gave it a Japanese title. So, just because she wrote it in Japan and was inspired by Japanese art, and gave it a Japanese title means it's a Japanese song? And if it's Hayley's song, then why would there be any concern about releasing it in other countries? I would think she would want all her own songs to be heard by everyone. I think you're wrong, I think it will be on her other new album, as well as the limited version of the Japanes Christmas album. I agree, if there was a Japanese song (a song in the Japanese language), people would be Hayleywowed, because it's something different than what most other artists do. I kind of thought that was why Pure was so interesting to people (besides her beautiful voice), because it had Maori songs on it, which is different than what most other artists do.

Hi Libby, You're probably sick of me addressing your repeated questions Oh well I'm guessing everyone else is as confused as us. The truth of the matter is that we won't know until we know.. May be I'd better to give a translation of the narration in the TV program. The narrator says: ---------------- Mr. Mugi (the Japanese composer who plays the piano) thought of completing the song requesting Hayley to write the lyric in Maori. The cherry blossoms were in full of bloom at the location where Sakura-jima Island can be seen. Hayley gave the title to her own lyric "Toki no Tsubasa ni notte" or " Riding on the wing of time". Gauguin's hope which had been implied in his paintings is now finally become a music. ---------------- This implies that Hayley does have a lot to do with the song. But I'm not sure that we know it is "her" song... I'm completely guessing here, but I think it is a collaboroation of composer, lyrics, and I'm sure she would have worked with a Maori translator (to make sure she gets it right). But if she wrote all the lyrics, I guess that makes it her song? Anyway, I think this song is a selling point of this particular album (Japanese version), so I don't think they (Universal/Decca) would be in a hurry to place it on an international album....but if it is "Hayley's song" then I agree that it will likely be put as a bonus song on an international album, on either a normal or special edition at some stage. It sure sounds like it deserves to be on one.. Oh and did I read somewhere that the Japanese version is coming out before the International versions?? (Once again this is all speculative and not confirmed). If that is the case, I will definitely be buying the Japanese version! Cheers Jono

Well, it's not just the bonus song, the other Japanese Christmas one farther up the list most likely won't be on the other versions, either. I'm still going to wait a while to order it. Maybe I'll wait till at least a couple weeks before the release date, in case there are any more details before then that will help me make my decision. We might know when the UK/international release is by then. If there's no U.S. version, I'm particularly interested in a NZ version. Actually, that one could have the new song, too, since it's in Maori. Don't you think NZ fans are entitled to hear their star sing a new song she helped write in Maori?
I was a little disappointed at first that the Christmas album would be before the new album, but I kind of understand why they're doing it this way. You experts can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think her next major album after the Christmas album would be her last album for her contract with Decca. If so, and if she's not planning to continue with them (if she wants to drop the classical label, it's a good chance she will), then they would probably rather that she not end with a Christmas album.
Do you think she would leave Decca? It would be nice to have a change in record companies, one less restrictive and that won't make people miss out on so many songs.
I think it would be just evil of Decca not to allow the whole world to hear On the Wings of Time!

Hi Libby,
Well, as Hayley herself said to me when I asked her about why HSJS (1) had not been released worldwide,it was not up to her. Decca decides things like that, and whether or not any other record company would have done it any differnetly is debatable. If there were legal reasons, it is likely that any other record company would have done the same.
But she also said that that does not prevent us from buying those albums. I have three Japanese imports, two Australian imports and probably a few others too. In this internet age we can get anything. It might cost a bit more, but to be honest a Hayley album is worth a lot to me.
So I think what you are talking about is not availablilty but promotion. An album will not be promoted in a country were it is not sold. And promotion is the thing that will get Hayley noticed. Once she is noticed I'm sure her sheer talent wil do the rest. As it has in Taiwan.
