Well, I understand what feeling blue means, but I never hear anyone say that they feel "pastel". So in my defense, that use of pastel is not the first thing that comes to mind, if it comes at all. My brain was putting pastel and pastries together, thinking they were related. "Pastel" happens to be a word for cake or pastries in Spanish. So now do you see why I was a little confused?

Or as they say in Italy, "pasta, its best".

I presume a pastel humour is relaxed and happy as opposed to the blues or blacks. That is just my interpretation of what Hayley has written, the word hopeful is there too, so it all sounds very optimistic. I'm happy enough to think that is what she means. Cat Stevens wrote lyrics to Into White which may also be baffling. I built my house from barley rice Green pepper walls and water ice Tables of paper wood, windows of light And everything emptying into white A simple garden, with acres of sky A Brown-haired dogmouse If one dropped by Yellow Delanie would sleep well at night With everything emptying into white A sad blue eyed drummer rehearses outside A Black spider dancing on top of his eye Red legged chicken stands ready to strike And everything emptying into white I built my house from barley rice Green pepper walls and water ice And everything emptying into white

I've had another look at the picture and text again, maybe it is just a simple reference to the colour of lipstick and nail varnish.
Another Cat Stevens lyric: The song "Where are you"
I know I think a lot But somehow it just doesn't help It only makes it worse The more I think The more I know The more it hurts With only solitude to meet me like a friend Oh, where are you? Where are you ? where are you? Maybe she sits alone Beyond the storm Across the raging torrent of the sea She knows I want her And she knows I'll always be... How can I live without the love I cannot see Oh where are you? Where are you ? Where are you? Oooooooohhhh I know there's someone there I hear her breathe Behind the silence of the dark But I know that I won't see 'til we open up our eyes together She'll look at me What a moment that moment will be! And she looks so light I could fly her through the night Oooh I know I think a lot But somehow it just doesn't help It only goes to show That what you never miss You never know But I have loved you from the moment that we knew Oh, I love you I love you But where are you?

Pastel could just refer to the soft muted colors in the picture. That’s how I understood it. Some days I wear all pastel colors, and if someone comments on it I usually say something along the lines of “I’m feeling pastel today” 🤷🏼♀️

LOL

I've had another look at the picture and text again, maybe it is just a simple reference to the colour of lipstick and nail varnish. Aha, her nail "varnish" is so pastel I didn't even notice it! Yes, I was more looking at her top, which is gray, which I don't consider to be pastel. Her bracelet is a little brighter than pastel yellow. And I suppose the flower could be pastel? I don't know, I'm not an expert on what makes a color pastel or not; I thought it was just a very light colored version of the "normal" color.

Hi Libby, do I detect amusement at the words nail varnish, I usually keep a bottle in my toolbox for scratches on car paint work, anti tamper detection on screws, or to prevent the nuts coming loose, insulation on electrical components, A little touch of it on car components like the oil filter or brake pads lets you know the mechanic did not replace them but just wiped them clean and charged you for a new one.. I have even heard of people using it to colour their finger nails.

I have also heard it called "polish". I've heard elevators called lifts. I've heard trash/garbage called rubbish. Garbage cans are rubbish bins. Hoods are bonnets. Parking lots are car parks. Etc, etc, etc.

American English versus British English, Libby! Car boot/trunk, petrol/gas, color/colour, sports teams referred to as "it" vs. "they" - I could go on but of course you know all this, I think it's all quite interesting.
