Has anyone heard of 15 year old Australian soprano Grace Bawden?! I was searching this site called CDBaby that releases independent albums, and it had a 'Classical Pop' section. There, I found Grace. Listen to this beautiful voice! Click on the 'Play All Songs' cdbaby.com/cd/gracebawdenNot sure about all of the arrangements, but I know I'm astounded by the voice. I never clicked 'Buy' so fast!

Just did some more research: Myspace: www.myspace.com/gracebawdenShe apparently comes from Australia's Got Talent 2008, so very much like Faryl Smith in that respect. And she lists Hayley as an influence.

Glad to see that someone agrees!
I watched some clips of her on YouTube since to look at her performances on Australia's Got Talent. She actually sings real opera (those clips on her MySpace and CDBaby are crossover). I was very surprised.
And annoyed by some of the judges comments, actually! Two complained about not understanding what she was singing because it wasn't English, and one said (after she sang 'La Wally') that the song could have been about a crying Guinea Pig, and that she needs to sing something in English and has more popular appeal. Sheesh. Paul Potts didn't win with an English version of Nessun Dorma! What's their problem?!

Hello Nicola! I agree that Grace Bawden has a great voice, but I don't like the awful backing on the Flower Duet. I've added her name to the thread title. Richard

Yes, I had the Flower Duet in mind when I wrote 'not sure about the arrangements...'
I believe she arranged it herself for the final of Australia's Got Talent. She didn't win...

Hey guys,
Grace's Mum, Matilda, was kind enough to send me Grace's debut album for an advance review, and I really think most people here will like her. She is similar to Hayley. Unfortunately, you can't really hear her operatic ability on her album as she sticks to Hayley's vocal style for the album, but she does have a fantastic opera voice too.
By the way, I got used to her 'Flower Duet'. It's one of my favourites, now! Though my favourite is 'Streets of Philadephia'

I am surprised that not many other HWI'ers have taken a liking to her. I thought she'd be right up your street guys! <3

Grace had this to say about Hayley
We adore Hayley at our place. I grew up listening to her for years. She never gets it wrong and its so wonderful to see her doing so well for herself. I love her music.

Hey guys, I've just done a short review of Grace's debut album here: gracebawden.forumsmusic.com/gift-s-of-grace-2009-f3/album-reviews-t47.htmI'll copy it here: I received two copies of this album in the mail two days ago. One was ordered through Grace's website, and the other was courtesy of Grace with a lovely personalised message and autograph on the cover! My overall reaction to the album is - WOW. It is a breath of fresh air, an excellent debut album from a very talented young singer! I would compare the vocals to early Hayley Westenra recordings. The Debut single, "Man of Colours" is a catchy song and well deserving of first single. However, there are other songs that I prefer on the album, and none that disappoint! Grace's version of the overdone song "Amazing Grace" was brilliant, one of the best I have heard! The stand out songs for me are "Dust in the Wind", "Just Breathe", and "People", closely followed by "Longer" and "Streets of Philadelphia". The album is very 'easy listening' and will be a great companion on my bus trips! This is one of those rare albums which is enjoyed as a whole. All of the songs are great!! 9/10!! Thanks Grace!

These three posts have been moved from a duplicate thread, now deleted: I've been aware of Grace Bawden for a while now, but I've only just recently checked out her music. I really like the song Man of Colours, and her lovely rendition of the Flower Duet. I'm interested in buying her CD, Gifts of Grace, but I'm not sure where I can get it. I looked at Amazon, but they only list a CD called Grace Bawden from 2008, and don't list any songs. They do have several songs available for download, but I thought there were more than 5 songs on her CD. And I thought her CD was out in 2009.
I will appreciate your suggestions on where to buy her CD, particularly for American fans. Thanks!
I'm surprised there isn't already a thread for her, but I searched and couldn't find one.
For anyone who doesn't know, Grace Bawden is a 17-year old crossover singer from Australia, who was on the show Australia's Got Talent. She sang opera, but her CD doesn't really have much opera from what I can tell. She has a really high voice, which reminds me of both Chloe Agnew (from Celtic Woman) and Sarah Brightman.

Hello Libby,
The CD on Amazon is an EP, not her album. You can only get her album from Australian stores (she is, by choice, as she was offered a deal with Sony, an indie artist, so not widely available as most). I was lucky to have two copies sent to me. Last time I checked, the Australian stores were out of stock, in which case, you can definitely buy her album on her website.

My favourite song of hers is 'Cold Outside' - the choral arrangement is jaw dropping. Stupid me, it's also on iTunes, with a bonus track. The album is called 'Gifts of Grace'. The EP is pointless as all the tracks on it are on the album.
