Are there at least three songs that you think Hayley should have recorded by now but somehow missed? They could be Pop, Country, Classical/Crossover, Easy Listening...you name it. But these must be songs that, upon reflection you wonder: "How the heck did they overlook these potential masterpieces??!!"
My Three:
1. "People" ............... Its undisputed owner, Barbra Streisand, has something in common with "Wuthering Heights'" songstress Kate Bush: they are both fully matched by Hayley in the vocals department, especially where "signature" tunes are concerned!
2. "Exsultate, Jubilate" ............... The "gold standard" of sacred classical solo mezzo soprano, and we all know that, more than likely, Hayley would make short work of it!
3. "I Don't Know How to Love Him" .................... For many of us, this is the show-stopping high-point of ALW's "JC Superstar", done to perfection by Yvonne Elliman and done to death by everyone else from Sarah Brightman to Sinéad O'Connor. It's time for a real contender to step up to the plate, and that could well be the one and only Hayley Westenra!
Okay everyone, your turn! And remember, these aren't exactly song recommendations we're listing, but mainly tunes that prompt our bewilderment that they were overlooked so far.

Hi Steve,
Well, she might find it hard to improve on Barbra's version of People. Usually, when she takes on other people's "signature" tunes she can only get away with it if her version is undisputedly better, as with Wuthering Heights.
Bur your third suggestion... WOW, why didn't I think of that, I always loved that song, and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up just thinking about how Hayley would sound singing it.
But the line "I've had so many men before" probably wouldn't sound convincing coming from Hayley!!

...But the line "I've had so many men before" probably wouldn't sound convincing coming from Hayley!! I never thought about that, but if she can convince me she's the ghost of Cathy then she can do just about anything! So, can you or anyone name three more overlooked songs? (That's what this thread is supposed to be about.)

I can't think of any Steve,
Listened to your choices and they sound good.
Would love her to do more songs from musicals, movies, and operas. And more folk songs, traditional songs, delve a bit more into country, New Zealand songs, etc...
Searched my brain and the net, but couldn't find anything which I think she should have done by now..

This is kind of a strange question. I can certainly think of songs that I think would be good for her to sing, but I'm not shocked and horrified that she hasn't sung them yet. She might sing them sometime, you never know.

Well, we have another thread called, IIRC songs you would like her to do sometime hwi.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Miscellaneous&action=display&thread=2238I just realised I don't know how to set up a link to another thread. Some of us have already posted suggestions there, but I can repeat myself here 1. Eternal Flame (Bangles) 2. You've got a Friend (Carole King) 3. Who knows where the time goes (Sandy Denny/Fairport Convention) Martin

Hi Martin I know this has been explained already somewhere, but it's late and, what the heck, we're "off topic" anyway! Like this? HEREAdd [ url= at the beginning and ] HERE [/url ][/b] at the end but don't use bold type or leave any spaces or else it won't work Best wishes Grant

I never thought about that, but if she can convince me she's the ghost of Cathy then she can do just about anything! Yeah, well, I don't think I'd really want to be convinced of that. ... I can appreciate that some people are squeamish about Hayley tackling more mature material, but it's just a song, and she's sung so many songs before. In very many ways, it's just one more. And I can also appreciate that this thread bears a resemblance to a previous topic about songs we'd like her to do. But I think I made it clear, though, that I wasn't looking for song suggestions, just a short list of songs you can't believe she hasn't already done, given how obviously great for her they are. Takes some thought, yes, but I know we can get them all if we try!

1. Eternal Flame (Bangles) 2. You've got a Friend (Carole King) 3. Who knows where the time goes (Sandy Denny/Fairport Convention) She's already sung Eternal Flame, on WITA, so she didn't miss it. For a long time I didn't know what Eternal Flame was, until it was recently put up on youtube. And it was then I realized I've been hearing it at work for some time. But I'm sorry to say that hearing the same songs constantly at work makes me a bit tired of them. Hayley's version is nicer, but I have to say her voice didn't sound very strong back then. So, I suppose a newer recording would be better, but I'd rather she sang songs she's never done before, instead. You've Got a Friend is okay. I hear that a lot, too. I know Hayley would sound much nicer, of course. Steve, I think you're going to have trouble getting people to answer your question right. None of us have expectations of her like that (well, we shouldn't). She can't sing everything! If she did sing the ones you thought she was nuts to miss, then that would've left out another wonderful one that she did record. She missed them because she either didn't know about them, or wanted to sing other songs more than those ones. There's no reason to be shocked about what she doesn't sing. And her songs are so nice that you shouldn't feel too bad that she didn't sing a certain song. There's always the chance she'll sing it on another album.

That's true Libby, and yes, I did know she sang Eternal Flame on WITA, so it is not within the rules, but I would like to hear what she could do with it now! There are also quite a few songs that she has performed live but never recorded, foremost of which at the moment is "I know you by heart". But there are many others that it would be nice to have studio recordings of. But I agree, I have no complaints about her choice of material so far - it seems spot on. So perhaps it is hard for us to suggest anything different.
