Hi everyone, I have just received an email from Hannah at Bedlam Management to say that five new videos of Raven appear on their You Tube channel and that any feedback would be appreciated. You can leave comments on You Tube or post them here and I will pass them through. Enjoy! Roger

Hi everyone, I have just received an email from Hannah at Bedlam Management to say that five new videos of Raven appear on their You Tube channel and that any feedback would be appreciated. You can leave comments on You Tube or post them here and I will pass them through. Enjoy! Roger Hi Roger and everyone, I am going to reply here (the long way round) as it enables sharing with other WHI views. I am also going to include what I had intended as a post under the St James lunch-time post with Fiona. [This I have now changed to a separate post but hopefully linking, please bear with me while I sort out what I am trying to do.] 1. The quality of Youtube presentations is continually increasing. I used the HD option which did not help on the video. It was either out of focus originally or either on digital rather than optical zoom, or on standard definition. For what ever reason it was not good enough to post in an 'official' context 2. One version showed a slide presentation to the music background. I think that HD definition of slides, showing individual artists with their names and perhaps a short bio is the best way visually. unless... 3. One can find someone able to take HD with a better LS lens but such an arrangement would need to be with the theatre's acceptance. I would offer to give it a try but I am still learning and too inexperienced at present and that thought is only if our existing quality photographers are unable. 4. Point three will not enhance the sound, that is to do with the limitations of low-level equipment but the sound in all cases was acceptable and serves the purpose of promotion at an adequate level that encourages further following or buying of CDs, which I assume is the purpose (other than just general promotion to spread awareness...). 5. Somewhat counteracting my point 2 is that there is worse video quality here www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyaMm7KXuDk of Chris Garrick playing at the Royal Festival Hall, so I guess it is "horses for courses', although that is a somewhat old recording. For the relevance of this quote see the following link. At this point I am now crossing to the Fiona St James thread to keep on topic and will provide the link as soon as I can here hwi.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fiona&action=display&thread=4659&page=3#95809. Hello Roger.
I've just had a quick look at all the videos. I'm fairly certain the three live videos were recorded by Andy Moore, because the picture quality is diabolical. I hope somebody buys him a decent video camera for Christmas, or preferably sooner.
The music video of 'Ritual Fire Dance' is quite good, but the picture is too dark for my liking. The slide show is the best video in my opinion.

I have just watched the You Tube offerings myself and concur with everything that Richard has said.
I know that the quality of some videos on You Tube can be pretty awful but these are not good enough to launch a professional group in this media.

Hi Roger. Trying to add a positive note without making any commitments or presumptions on my ability as I am still very much a novice there is an extract of Fiona performing here: www.angelfire.com/journal/ggbtps/HWI/20090623_fiona_take_1.mov but you will need fast broadband. It would be best to download and play on your own PC but it is 320Mb! That’s because it is full screen! However, to be effective for promotional purposes we need the association with Youtube to gain publicity value but I need to learn file translation, probably to flv and various other gimmicks. I am simply experimenting at the moment but Richard's new post regarding Raven playing at Cadogan Hall might provide an opportunity to try something without commitment but to do so properly I think we would need an official arrangement with the hall through Bedlam. By the time Raven are available in Cadogan Hall ( hwi.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=raven&action=display&thread=4815&page=1#95915)I might by that time have sufficient nous [for those for whom English is not their first language, that is not the French nous (we) but an English word pronounced 'nowse') to be able to do something on the principle of holding quality as high as possible but reducing data for speed of availability. However, on reflection as they would appear to be guests this may not be the right concert to do such work. Peter S.
