Ok so now I have most of my travel plans in place for the end of July. Now I have to find out what the appropriate attire for the 3 events should be. On the 31st it appears to be casual neat. Do I need a jacket and tie for any of the shows or will dress casual work? In the states we are getting sloppy but for Hayley I wish to be correct. Thanks Tom

Thanks Tom You raise some interesting points, Phototeach. There is one aspect of Americana which i appreciated when i came over for the first time many years ago that the attitude appeared to be that you made your own event out of the event. If it was a family party together then smart casual and if you were 'just out for the evening' even loafers seemed okay. To me a sense of theatre is always a night out but at the same time there are many who feel theatre should be so accessible as to be totally relaxed and down-dressed. I had not been to the opera house for a long time but even there, I remarked to Richard at the Albert Hall that there were more DJs (tuxedos) there than at the opera. Geared doubtless to money need the emphasis is very much on the love of opera, not on stylish dress, so even jeans and short sleeves appeared. Not knowing the locations you have in mind I cannot comment more specifically but generally speaking ties can be dispensed with if you prefer the open neck. Generally speaking casual slacks with or without jacket dependent upon the weather will see you meeting the mean of the people around you in almost any circumstance, not standing out and generally 'fading in'. For some higher priced restaurants it would be best to be jacket and trousers and have a tie in your pocket. Generally speaking we dress down more than I personally like burt each to their own, it's your event to enjoy as you please. Hope that helps, anyone else? Peter S.

Ok so now I have most of my travel plans in place for the end of July. Hello Tom! So glad you are travelling to the UK in July to see Hayley For me, I would wear what I feel most comfortable in, but something a step up from that. Something you might wear for an outdoor wedding reception. For me that would be a button-down dress shirt and trousers. I would even go for khaki or black jeans. I would avoid a blazer as you will only be putting it on the back of your chair anyway. If you are accustomed to a suit and tie I would wear that. You could always later remove your tie if the venue is a little warm. Always, always, you will see guys in their tuxedos...they are just trying to steal the show. Likewise you'll see t-shirts and blue jeans. Also think about your shoes... wear comfortable shoes, as you may have to climb stairs, wait in line, or walk to the car. But the important thing is to have a good time :rollin and Enjoy to Remember! Joe
