I usually bin freebie cds and dvds from newspapers but this one really is an exception. Hello Martin! I've kept the CD and thrown the newspaper away! Richard

Mmm. I don't quite understand why 'Un Giorno Per Noi' was included on this freebie. From a commercial point of view, surely the main purpose of this duet was to encourage Hayley's fans to buy Jonathan's album? But now, we don't have to. Would it not have made more commercial sense to include one of Jonathan's solo tracks? Or have I missed something? Roger

Perhaps Roger. I think that the purpose of this CD was to sell newspapers, and many people will remember that duet from last year and would like to own a copy of it. It is not, as far as I am aware, commercially available anywhere else.

Hi Martin,
Yes, it certainly works from the newspaper's point of view - I wasn't questioning that. But the duet which appears on Jonathan's album may have encouraged Hayley's fans to buy it but now they don't need to. I therefore don't see why the record company allowed them to use that particular track as opposed to one of the others. That was the point I was trying to make.

Hello Roger! I haven't listened to the CD yet, but 'Un Giorno Per Noi' is supposed to be a live recording, not the version on Jonathan's album 'Tenor at the Movies'. Richard

Thanks Richard and Martin. So I was right; I had missed something. Okay, it makes more sense now.

Well, after all of my comments I have almost forgiven the Daily Mail after today's edition of the Mail on Sunday. Would you believe there was a picture of Hayley in her "grey" dress on the Front Page! I don't know what the rest of you think, but this seems to me to be so arranged that my eyes were drawm first to the picture of Hayley, before the others. Or perhaps my eyes are always drawn to Hayley first. Martin Hello Martin and everyone I agree Martin, but if you look closely, it appears that only Hayley and Jonathan are happy to be there i.e. smiling! I think picking Hayley out comes naturally to us. Karsten made a comment regarding this PHOTO that Hayley was not so easy to spot, but I had picked her out within seconds. She just seems to have that ability! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest wishes Grant I added the quote, which is from the Classical Brit Awards thread. Richard

REMINDER I hope you've all got your copy of tomorrows todays Mail on Sunday ordered for the Classical Brits CD featuring Hayley twice! It's been advertised on TV quite a lot tonight on both ITV1 and Channel 5 - they played excerpts from Faryl, Russell Watson and Katherine Jenkins - Hayley only got a mention on the streaming names across the bottom of the ad. Don't really know why they bothered though, as you had to order a copy by Tuesday! I shall collect mine on the way to church i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest wishes Grant Really? I relied on getting going early enough in the morning (which actually wasn't until near eleven!) and picked mine up off a heap at Waitrose without problem. Peter S.

I have listened to that recording a lot. It is very close for sure, and where else would they get it? But the ones from the Valentines Tour are far better in my opinion. Hayley's voice has more power. Martin Martin

Hi everyone.
As I have gone into a little detail on the cd I've put my post here, although I originally started compiling notes intending to post under the Classical Brits thread.
Well once again HWI have shown that if you can’t get to something Hayley related, HWI gives you the second best option. I have only glimpsed what is to offer on the Classical Brits as I quickly flit through to find where I last visited and to open Word to accumulate my thoughts/responses.
Guys and dolls collectively you have done us all extremely proud and you Grant, as is so often the case, surpass all on those last three close-ups of Hayley but don’t let that discourage anyone else, please.
Mark commented that Faryl was very at ease signing and meeting with people. Over the weekend I was talking to a friend who has spent her life working in a school boarding house, finally as matron and her comment was the ease with which children generally can cope with the seemingly impossible for their ages. When Faryl said in conversation that she ‘simply got on with it’, this is considered the norm rather than the exception of children with any particular ability.
Keithp comments on certain dangers for single males walking home late at night in Glasgow. This makes a change from the usual situation concerning women and is a salutary lesson for us males. It was an interesting contrast to what I was listening to at the time—the Daily Mail CD and highlighted how the world of theatre re-absorbs many of us into our childhood memories, where everything was innocent and safe.
Looking at the personalities photographed and hearing them now, evokes the wonderful aspiration of higher, better and greater things. This is particularly noticeable when dealing with Hayley, leaving her one feels one has spent some time in a happier and nicer world, more as things ought to be rather than as they are. The whole of Classical Brits for me was uplifting and heart-warming.
Lovely pictures of Faryl, she is really going to become a very physically attractive young woman and she has the lovely open and welcoming personality to which we are accustomed from Hayley. I wonder if they are in contact with one another? A question for those going to Leamington, has Faryl asked if she can email Hayley about the sort of problems that can be encountered and how she developed her role as a young teen sensation?
Roger comments that Hayley has remained his constant number 1 female vocalist and not been replaced by anyone else so far, with Faryl as a second choice. I am inclined to agree and had it in mind, when I started going through the posts, that I would comment on the Daily Mail cd with that sort of perspective in mind. On that point, it was not until today that a thought occurred to me, someone should have bought several copies of the newspaper to have CDs available for overseas members who might liked to have shared them, on a simple cost recovery principle. So, folks, there is a suggestion for you for next year should a similar thing happen, who would be interested in having a copy mailed for the cost of the paper and postage? PM me only BUT no promises I might have completely forgotten by next year!
Several people have commented unfavourably about press coverage of Hayley. I think we are too sensitive. The Daily Mail did her proud on its front page and on the cover of its freeby cd.
Superb Faryl interview, she is so natural and comfortable with herself. So was her interview clip on Youtube, thank you folk for those highlights.
As for the cd itself, I played it over 2 or 3 times whilst reading through all the posts. My reception of it is as follows.
Faryl opens as she did at the concert (River of light). Track 12 with Charlotte Church is interesting as I think Charlotte was around the same age as Faryl is now. To my mind, comparing a good closeness of ages, Faryl has the superior voice (Guide me O thou great redeemer).
Lesley Garrett (I will wait for you) seems to have disappeared from my radar and Angela Georghiu (Casta Diva) was never on it. Both have good voices and are interesting if they are singing a song that appeals.
Opera Babes (One Fine Day) never did jell with me and I did not like the intro backing. Bryn Terfel (Shenendoah) is without doubt a superb male voice. Then we have Hayley. Very interesting they chose Pokarekare Ana. This makes Hayley the star of the cd. The song is unique to nonNZ ears and it remains the best song to bring out the unique quality of her voice, other than perhaps the Cassini. Even after all these years to hear her sing that, you know there is no other singer to pass comparison with her. All the others are good, competent, sometimes well weathered and proven but for all of them it is possible to hear what they sing sung by someone else and one would not feel cheated. With Hayley, there is only Hayley. A good runner up and one who may well develop a similar response out of me as she matures, is of course, as Roger said for himself, Faryl. This is a very promising girl and comes second only because there is Hayley. Then she might be first.
As for the Hayley recording it is live and I do not think the choral arrangement comes over as well as it does on the Pure cd. This is a classic example where the recording studio is more advantageous but I cannot see it having any effect on the reaction of people unfamiliar with Hayley. They will be so astounded at so unique a sound that they will go for Pure (it will be interesting to see if that cd reverses its present fall in the charts as a response to the Mail’s promotion).
Then Katherine Jenkins (Ave Maria). It is interesting that she follows directly on Hayley. All Angels (Sancte Deus), it is good to hear them again but once more the recording is better than the live performance. This is partly because live performances must inevitably show variation but also to do with the recording facilities available. Having said that and having followed Hayley through several theatres on her two tours, she is remarkably consistent in life.
With both All Angels and the Opera Babes (and with Hayley to an extent) I feel the live recording has not benefited from the best engineering techniques available on the cds. Following Natasha Marsh and Alfie Boe (a good song choice with Libiamo) we have Hayley with Jonathon Ansell (Un Giorno Per Noi). I’m inclined to the view that anyone encouraged to buy Pure would still buy Pure and consider a cd duet, so where is the River of Dreams cd?! I think they might still buy an Ansell.
An instrumental piece follows which is a superb tune and well arranged with violinist David Garrett Navarra). Then Charlotte, then Domingo in a duet with Rolando Villazon (Non Ti Scordar Da Mi), Carreras (Granada) and finally Russell Watson (Nessum Dorma).
This is a superb light introduction to a range of classical music performed, as the Mail says by 15 of the world’s greatest singers.

Hi Peter,
Well, actually I did end up doing exactly that, but only after being asked to by some of our overseas members. This left me scouring the neighbourhood for unsold copies at 6pm on the Sunday. Next time I shall have to take advanced orders beforehand.

Martin Of course, if you ever have the proverbial spare moment I doubt the CD is copy-protected so ... how long does it take to dupe a CD, perhaps leave the PC running overnight?... Peter S.

Hi Peter, Sorry, but the CD is copyright protected. This appears on the back of the slip-in case: In my experience, all promo CDs are copyright protected just the same as all other recording. I admit I don't understand it in the case of promo material but that's the way it is. Have you though of enquiring about obtaining a back issue from a local newsagent? Roger
