AN EXCLUSIVE event is offering people the chance to dine in the presence of royalty at a north-east castle this summer – for a good cause.

Centuries-old Harthill Castle, near Oyne, will host the evening in June to raise funds for The Princess Royal Trust for Carers.

The dinner will be attended by the Princess Royal.

Those lucky enough to obtain tickets to the event – which is limited to 400 places – will be treated to a champagne reception with hot and cold canapes before sitting down to a four-course meal created by celebrity chef Nick Nairn and his team.

Bjorn Again and award-winning classical singer Hayley Westenra will provide the entertainment.

Event organiser George Walker, whose previous projects have included the Queen’s 80th birthday celebrations at Balmoral, said the evening will provide a “good mix” of entertainment.

“We wanted something classical, and Hayley Westenra is an amazing singer. But we also wanted something people could dance to, and Bjorn Again were so successful at the Energy Ball last year we decided to go for them,” said Mr Walker.

“But we have got some other surprises as well.”

Rothienorman-based Pipeline Technique and Norson Services are supporting the event, which will take place on Thursday, June 11.

Tickets are on sale now and can be bought individually, priced £150 each, or for a table of 10.

A limited number of passes are also available for an exclusive reception which will be attended by main sponsors, VIPs, dignitaries and the Princess Royal.

Not wishing to put people off but I won't be risking this concert, this is the due the last charity concert of this kind was attempted back in 2007 (Dunkeld) .

The Princess Royal is to be the guest of honour at a glittering fundraising dinner in an Aberdeenshire castle next week.

Thursday’s event at 400-year-old Harthill Castle, near Oyne, is the brainchild of prominent Huntly businessman Forbes Shand, who is vice-chairman of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers (PRTC) campaign board for Scotland.

Over recent years Mr Shand, the chairman of Huntly-based R B Farquhar Holdings, has held two other fundraising dinners for the charity, which raised a total of £70,000.

Mr Shand, 66, has also helped raise £100,000 for Cancer Link Aberdeen and North (Clan).

He said: “The castle is a fantastic setting and I hope the evening will raise a substantial amount for the PRTC. It will be wonderful to have the Princess Royal present.”

Just one table remains available for the event, which will feature a champagne reception, a four-course dinner prepared by celebrity chef Nick Nairn and his team, and music from Bjorn Again and classical singer Hayley Westenra. An auction will also be held with lots including everything from dinner with actress Joan Collins to a visit to the set of Emmerdale.

Finale to the evening will be an 11.30pm spectacular fireworks display against the backdrop of Bennachie.

Hi all,

This sound like a wonderful event for charity. I looked up the Princess Royal Trust for Carers, and people who dedicate themselves to helping those who are ill or elderly provide invaluable comfort. I also admire the Princess Royal's countless charitable causes, most particularly in Scotland.

I wonder if Bjorn Again are going to duet with Hayley ?? Hayley's done 'S.O.S.' before!

I believe that tickets are £150.

THE Princess Royal was guest of honour at a glittering fundraising dinner at a north-east castle last night, that ended with a spectacular fireworks display against a backdrop of Bennachie.

Harthill Castle, near Oyne, provided the setting for the event being held to raise funds for the Princess Royal Trust for Carers (PRTC). Tickets for the champagne reception and dinner at the 400-year-old castle were restricted to 400 guests, who were entertained by Abba tribute band Bjorn Again and classical singer Hayley Westenra.

Pupils from the Gordon School of Dancing in Montrose also performed at the charity evening, which was organised by prominent Huntly businessman Forbes Shand who is vice-chairman of the PRTC campaign board for Scotland. Mr Shand, 66, now lives in King’s Gate in Aberdeen but was brought up near Harthill.

Last night’s four-course dinner was prepared by celebrity chef Nick Nairn and his team.

A fundraising auction was also held.

The trust, of which Princess Anne is patron, supports unpaid carers and young people who care for family members. It is estimated unpaid carers save the government £7.6billion a year in Scotland alone, with many people giving up both jobs and pensions to look after those they love.
