Hello - Does anyone know anything about the CD “Maybe” by Hayley Westenra? I bought it today at a used record store and the manager said it was rare. The tracks are: Lough Erin Shore, Dreams, Memory, All I Want is You, Tomorrow, Hello Young Lovers, Getting to Know You, I Dreamed a Dream and Maybe. This was recorded when she was very young. Looking for background... Thanks.

Well, it's not a "live" recording if that's what you mean. It is definitely not studio quality, but it is pretty good at the same time. You get the impression she is recording it on a home stereo. It is very clearly Hayley Westenra, although a very young sounding version. Has no one got it?

Hello Roger, and welcome to the forum! I don't know what you've got there, because it certainly isn't a CD that has ever been released by Hayley. I don't associate most of those songs with her either, so I wouldn't be too sure if it's really her singing. Best Wishes, Richard

Hi Roger and welcome to the forum from Central England.
I second Richard on this. Only two of the songs "Memory" and "I Dreamed a Dream" are familiar and have appeared on CD's recorded by Hayley.
We have never heard of this CD and we know of some pretty obscure recordings. Where are you located and where did you buy this CD?
Can you show us some scans of the artwork?
Best wishes Grant

Bought it in UK... I don't think it is an official release. I think you're right. I don't have a scanner, but will try to post a picture later today or tomorrow with my camera. The front and back art are the same, just a picture of a cassette insert with handwriting on it. I hope you'll understand if I don't name the shop where I got it... I paid a load for it and do not want to diminish its value by announcing to the world where it came from. I'm probably being crazy, but it seemed - and seems - like quite a find and I want to protect my investment. Just really wanted to make sure it wasn't something that was ubiquitous. Her voice was really stunning, even as a child. I have all her records and it's amazing to hear her evolve. Thx.

That sounds like a little beaut of a find.
Recorded on a cassette and transferred to CD. ? It is completely amazing that not one of the members here ever heard of this recording, Does it have any Record company Logos on the insert.. I wonder how it got to the UK (As it may have been recorded in New Zealand) or was it recorded when Hayley first came to London, Maybe someone pulled it out of Hayley's wheelie bin. She may have been just messing around at home or in a studio and gave the cassette away or threw it away. All just my speculation of course ! but it sounds good. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI agree, that from the very first recorded performances Hayley displayed a very unique and unusual talent, Outstanding and destined to be a singer of exceptional and diverse material.

A couple of other thoughts before I forget. Yes, it was recorded on cassette and converted to CD. The man at the shop told me as much. But he played a smidge of it before I bought it and I was satisfied that the quality was very good. And yes, it does sound like it was messing around. I listened to the whole think from start to finish on a drive yesterday and at two points, there is audible giggling in the background between songs. Very cute. Whole thing is 49 minutes long. Thx.

The title "Maybe" makes perfect sense too !
Maybe we will record these songs on a future album. or Maybe we will sing one of these songs on a radio or TV show.
It sounds like some sort of demo and I wonder where the original cassette is ?
Roger , you may need to open a "Photobucket" account. it is free and fairly easy to use even for an old fool like me .

Well, I REALLY appreciate all of your feedback. Yes, I am very excited about this. I actually have been to this board before but was not registered until yesterday. I'm not much of a message board person, i'm embarrassed to say. If any of you happen to hear anything further about the derivation of this jewel, I would be very appreciative if you would drop me a note at hammondroger@hotmail.com.

Sounds like someone is making money at Hayley's expense who clearly didn't want such a recording to get out, otherwise she would have released it herself. Not blaming you Roger, but clearly, the person that has this cassette has made CD copies of it and selling it off without permission. Congratulations on your find. You must feel honoured and lucky!

I doubt very much if there was a claim to copyright on this recording.
I would dearly love to hear it .....
