I can confirm that the band tracks for Mama E and Flower were recorded at the Polytech Jazz School on 15 Jan 09 with Hayley adding the vocals at Bell Bird Studios the following week. Hi John, Thanks for the clarification!

I was entitled to a voucher for 500 yen, but I didn't realise until it was too late. D'oh!

Thanks for the correction, when I first posted it I went through a bit too quickly, and ended up fixing only the easy parts.
I use Google Translate on a daily basis for work and I am constantly surprised at how well it works, however i think the issue here was that it was translated from English to Japanese, to English and the way that it was written was a bit unconventional so Google Translate did not do it correctly.
I went through it from a fine tooth comb this time, broke everything down, got individual meanings to better understand how it was put together and this is what I got
original JP sentence: これからはさらに正式なクラシック曲とかよりポップな歌を追求していこうと思っています romanized: korekarahasarani seishiki na kurashikku magato kayori poppu na utawo tsuikyuu shiteikouto omotte imasu
Some words did not translate properly as some of it was jumbled together, the first part says from now on, but that didn't work out when inputted into the dictionary, thats why it didn't find it. That was mostly a problem with "korekarahasarani", as a singular form, it is not a word, but together I suppose it reads "from now on" (according to Babelfish, not Google T) Anyways lets get to the point. Breaking it down, and then translating it, I got this
[From now on][and others/they][official/formal][classical][tune from][pop][song][pursuit][You intend probably to keep doing]
Rephrased, it should say, "I used to sing light classical songs and shows, although they were limited to one genre, there were many varieties. From now on, I probably intend to pursue pop songs with a classical sound" Sorry for the horrible rephrase but you get the point. This is exactly in-line with her HSJS albums, as they are *all* Japanese pop songs, but with Hayley's classical style applied to them.
So I hope, FINALLY, we understand what she was trying to say. I'm a bit relieved actually because I love her classical voice and wouldn't want her to crossover or develop an entirely new style just for pop. I think back to how some performers have a "pop voice" and a "classical" voice and being able to switch between them. What Hayley is doing however is applying her classical voice to pop songs which I think works out really well. I have heard it done before, and successfully I might add (my impression from Andrea Bocelli's 2007 Greatest Hits, which were, if not entirely, all pop)

Hi Speedforce,
Yes, I too would hate to see her give up classical music completely on go pop like Charlotte Church. One of her (Hayley's) strengths is the versatility of her voice. She can sing just about anything, and whatever it is it will be brilliant. With Hayley, as I have said before, it is the singer not the song, and I love her varied repertoire. It is very refreshing compared to most other singers. The HSJS albums are fabulous. It is such a pity they cannot be released worldwide (and I have told Hayley that to her face, unfortunately she says, I'm sure quite truthfully, that it is beyond her control).

I think I will eventually write a review of this album. It is still growing on me, and I know there are still people who haven't received their copies yet, so I am holding back. Is it too early to talk about favourite tracks? Well, on first hearing, the standouts were the first and last songs, but now the one I cant get out of my head is track 2 "A Cresecent Moon". To think the first time I heard that song,I was not impressed. But like HSJS1 I think every song is wonderful. And Hayley's voice is like WOW!

But like HSJS1 I think every song is wonderful. And Hayley's voice is like WOW! Martin Hi Martin, I agree, before receiving my copy a week ago, I listened to the samples at Universal Japan a lot of times. All tracks except track 10 were love at first hear, I spent last weekend listening to HSJS2 over and over again. It's the only album I have been playing for a week now, the more I listen to it the more I like it, it is now my favorite! Hayley's voice is indeed like WOW! Best wishes, Paulo Correia

Hi Graham,
Yes, I agree I like track 7 too, it is delightful. This is the other lullaby, and is another one that has been buzzing round my head.
Paulo,
No, I can't say I dislike track 10. It has a bit more "go" about it than some of the others, and breaks things up nicely. It might have been better earlier in the album. Just like HSJS1, I think every song is good, there are no weaknesses, and I can't say right now which of those albums I like best. But they are Hayley's two best albums for sure in my opinion.
What do you all make of track 9? I think it is absolutely gorgeous, and very different from anything else I have ever heard form Hayley.
It is obvious to me that much more was spent on the production of this album than HSJS1.

My Limited Edition CD was shipped the 11th, and arrived on the 14th; not to brag, or anything. Japan is right across the ocean from me. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI love #1 and #11, and #2 and #5 are good, too. She hits some really high notes on "Love, Love, Love", which is what I like! The rest are good, too, but I have only listened to the entire album once, so I don't remember some of them. But, like Speedforce, I think I like the first HSJS better, overall. By "more pop songs", I think Hayley is talking about songs like I Know you By Heart, not pop like Britney Spears, or anything. I doubt that there will ever be any danger of that. I think this is good, because "poppy" songs have more chance of being played on U.S. radio than classical songs. I wouldn't like it if she abandoned classical completely, because I enjoy a variety of styles from Hayley. I'd like Celtic/Irish music and Maori songs to remain in her repertoire, as well.

Hi Libby,
After my first listen, I too would have said that I preferred HSJS1. But having heard it a few more times now, I am not so sure. This one grows on you, and has several songs that are unlike anything Hayley has recorded before. For that reason among others, I have held back from commenting too soon, although I have now had this album for a week.

Hi Martin, Yes, I agree with you. The first time I heard the full album, track 10 was the one that I didn't like as much as the others. When I heard track 9 for the first time, I was in AWE! I heard it again and only then I continued to track 10! I love all the tracks, I think this album is EXCELLENT! What do you all make of track 9? I think it is absolutely gorgeous, and very different from anything else I have ever heard form Hayley. Track 9 - Itsumo nando demo / Many times always, EXCELLENT! Best wishes, Paulo Correia

I have found that although this album didn't have the same impact on me the first time as the first album did that I found after a few listenings of it it certainly grows on you. This is understandable as the first CD was a change in direction for Hayley which we loved. The second CD is more like a part two which going by the title it is. I do think that more time has been spent on this album and it is of a high quality throughout the whole CD such that it is still hard to pick a favourite song. In fact I love all of them. Tsubomi / A Bud is certainly one that I Iike, probably more so because of the music video. I love the tune and especially the chorus.
Mikazuki / A Crescent Moon This song has grown on me. I like the opening with only Hayley and the piano and then the choir joining them.
Mirai e / To The Future Similar style song to that above but another that Hayley sings wonderfully.
Mama e / To Mother This is another slow song that takes a few listens to appreciate the beauty of it.
Love Love Love I love this song, very catchy especially the ending where you can hear Hayley singing the high notes.
Cosmos Love the violin opening and ending. Lovely lyrics, quite a sad song but another very good song.
Warabigami / A Child God Very Celtic-like opening with the flute etc. A very spiritual song that a mother could quite easily sing to a baby as a lullaby.
Mama ni sasgeru uta / Mother Of Mine Another favourite, very lovely song, very uplifting.
Itsumo nando demo / Many Times Always Almost like a classical tune especially with the involvement of the strings. I love the way Hayley does the different "La-La Las" at the end plus the violin in the middle.
Flower This could quite easily become a favourite of mine. A bit faster than most of the other songs and could easily be released as a single and hear it on the radio (wishful thinking). I love Fiona on the violin and you can hear Harry Harrison on the guitar near the end.
Nemunoki no komoriuta / Singing a Lullaby Under the Silk Tree The shortest song and the only one sung in Japanese. Love the echoing sounds and the Japanese lyrics and the simple backing of the piano.
In summary this is another great album by Hayley which shows off her maturing voice and the wonderful lyrics that she wrote for most of these songs.
