Singer prepares for Abbey show
Kiwi singing sensation Hayley Westenra was today preparing to perform an eagerly awaited, sold-out show at Shrewsbury Abbey.
The 18-year-old New Zealand singer’s debut album Pure topped the UK classical charts and entered at number eight in the pop charts.
She is visiting Shropshire for tonight’s performance as part of a major tour of the UK and will be singing tracks from her new album Odyssey as well as her first album. In an interview earlier this month Miss Westenra said she was very excited about coming to Shrewsbury.
She said: “I’m visiting churches as opposed to theatres on this tour. I’m really looking forward to appearing in Shrewsbury. I understand the Abbey is very special.”
It is hoped that Miss Westenra will return to the Abbey in December for a repeat performance due to the demand for tickets.
