Hi Dave & Joe, I am impressed...Hayley can now add a Grammy nomination to her list of superb achievements?! That's fabulous news and I hope it will help to give the album more exposure in the US. Fingers crossed for the ceremony day of course Cheers, Stephany

Hi All, Well, Whether WSS "wins" or not, it certainly deserves to....
A real milestone performance for Hayley. She excelled herself.
A delight to behold at both Woburn Abbey & Mermaid Theatre.
And ,nearly forgetting, the WSS CD itself .....a brilliant piece of work.

Good luck to Hayley and Vittorio! The nomination itself is a great success. No matter they win or not, we will always support Hayley!

Hello everybody! This is excellent news. Whatever happens, the album will gain some much-needed extra publicity. Richard Hi Richard and all, I am pleased to see the nomination as well.....Unfortunately, unless a very unusual set of circumstances occurs the nomination by itself will have very little direct effect on the sales of the CD. Winning is better than just getting a nomination of course - but I think that is a real long-shot: Only a portion of the event is televised - and the portion which is televised will only contain the 20 or so "big" awards, i.e. the best song, best female vocalist, best album etc. If you arent doing pop, country and western, rap/ hip hop, r&b or some kind of hybrid of these which is already going over well, there is virtually no chance of a mere nomination getting a televised mention at all. If you win, you might get a mention along with 30 other winners in a five minute segement of the show reserved for the winners of the lesser awards which were given before the actual televised ceremony. Winning does have other real benefits though - a lesser award might get you a line or two of additional print coverage here and there, and maybe even a brief mention in the entertainment segments of local news shows. More importantly winning might also increase the availability of the CD - some store like Target might stock it on that basis for example. It is good to be nominated - but the prominent benefit of that would be to bring her to the attention of more industry execs - which might get her more oppurtunities in the future but would in and of itself do little to help the sales of this CD. I suppose that on line coverage of the type cited in this thread are also a good thing - but it is very difficult to measure how much effect it has. Jon

...the prominent benefit of that would be to bring her to the attention of more industry execs - which might get her more oppurtunities in the future Hi Jon, Exactly. And not only in the States, but everywhere else too. Hayley is already well known in the music industry in NZ and the UK (something that is not really linked to the number of CD sales, though she's had quite a few there) and from that has come and will hopefully continue to come that most important thing... work (of all kinds). The Grammy nomination will improve the chances of that happening in the US but all we can really say is that somewhere in the World, something may well come out of it, some time in the next year or so. It all helps - even a 'mere' nomination - but of course, we will probably never know what if anything happens specifically because of the Grammies. I think we all agree that this Grammy nomination cannot be anything other than good news for Hayley - and everyone else involved in the production and performance. The awards ceremonies will take place on February 10th 2008 in Los Angeles and that, I suspect, may tell us where Hayley and Vittorio will be on that day. I think because the time difference works in Hayley's favour, there is easily enough time for Hayley to get from the Matakana, Lakeside Charity Concert in NZ on the 9th, to LA for the ceremony on the 10th. However, the award goes to the Album Producer(s) not the artists, in this case Nick Patrick (also to the composer(s)/lyricist(s)). Cheers, Dave

However, I would not have thought that the trip would be made unless there was a very good chance of winning. Martin

Do we know whether Hayley has confirmed to attend?? Because isn't she going to be in the middle of the NZ In Tune with Nature tour??? Perhaps Vittorio will go in her place and accept it if they win. I really hope they do. This is a HUGE career oppurtunity for Hayley (not that she didn't have any as big before...)
GOOD LUCK HAYLEY!!!

Hi everybody! The musical "Spring Awakening" nabbed the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. The other nominees in the category were A Chorus Line, Company, Grey Gardens and of course the 50th Anniversary Decca Broadway tribute to West Side Story. The 50th annual Grammy celebration was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 10. Stephany

Thanks for that Stephany.
Oh, what a shame. I was hoping to see Hayley get that award (even though she didn't attend), because it would have been really nice for her. Oh well, plenty of other oppurtunities, and hey, it got her name out there, especially in America.

It's disappointing, but somehow I'm not surprised. I don't think it helped matters that it's a whole new cast doing the original soundtrack, which is what people who are familiar with the movie are used to. Also, it may seem strange to them that the singers aren't American, since the story was set in America.
I don't think it's Hayley's best work, and I'm not a big fan of WSS anyway, so it doesn't bother me that much.
