When I attended the Hayley/José concert at Hampton Court, the programme stated that Hayley would be appearing in a London West-End musical in 2006. Hayley stated in a recent interview how she would like to appear as Maria in The Sound Of Music. I then read that Lord Webber is going to stage The Sound Of Music at The London Palladium in 2006. Coincidence or what?
The only problem is that he says he is negotiating with Scarlet Johansen to appear as Maria, apparently she is a good singer. A lot of these shows, such as Chicago, have a different lead every few months. Does anybody have any information?

No, the Scarlett Johansson negotiation is a vamped up version of Evita, not West Side Story. I'm a Scarlett Johansson fan, so you can trust me on this.

Hi Tony, Yes, we know about the London West End Musical. But, until it is confirmed, we can say nothing. All I can say is that it is going to be big!!!! And, no, it has nothing to do with the Sound of Music. And, Portia, where did you manage to bring West Side Story in from? That one has got me completely baffled. Keith.

And, Portia, where did you manage to bring West Side Story in from? That one has got me completely baffled. Keith. Haha, because both the musicals have a main character called Maria? I do recall that Hayley wanted to be Maria of West Side Story instead of Sound of Music. Either way, Scarlett Johansson will not be starring in either.

Hmmm, I wonder if this has anything to do with Mary Poppins. Hayley could certainly do a rollicking version of "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," and her voice is perfect for "Feed the Birds" and "Stay Awake." She would certainly be a worthy successor to Julie Andrews.

I believe i know which one it is, but if by some fluke my hunch is right and i told you, both you and i would be cozying up with the worms six feet under by morning. And my word would mean nothing. I just hope whether right or not, i'm around to see it. Nick,

Hi Dave G,
This goes back to the paragraph in last year's Hampton Court programme which stated that Hayley would appear in a London West End musical during the summer of 2006, probably for about two months. It did not say which one. Somewhere along the way, 'West Side Story' was mentioned but only as a guess (or perhaps a personal wish). There is no truth in any rumours which may have developed from that!
There has still been no official release of further information but, when I spoke to her manager in December, he confirmed that it was still planned to go ahead. Any further information will be announced here as soon as it becomes available.

Apart from "The Sound of Music" which Hayley missed out on, there are three musicals due to commence in London later this year which, as yet, do not list any casting.
Porgy and Bess - a number of soprano parts but you have to be black to play them.
Lord of the Rings - we know at least one of the numbers from that one.
Cabaret - the part of Sally Bowles. Now this musical is described as decadent and I remember another event (Cadogan Hall) being described as decadent. Is there a connection here? Cabaret is due to start on 22nd September, but Cadogan Hall is on 23rd September. She wouldn't let us all down for that one.
Anyone any brighter ideas for "Something big is coming up"?
Now she was talking with Patrick Swayze on Heaven and Earth.
She does enjoy Coronation Street.

I was wrong about the All-Black cast for Porgy and Bess, a precedent has been set:
On March 27, 1943, the opera had its European premiere at the Royal Opera House in Copenhagen. This performance is also notable for the fact that it was put on by an all-white cast under the nose of the Nazi occupiers, who put an end to its run after 22 sold-out performances. [5]
Other all-white or mostly-white productions in Europe took place in Zurich in 1945 and 1950, and Copenhagen in 1946.
