Many thanks for the information Kimberly! I remember saying a while ago that Hayley would be ideal for this show. I'll definitely be listening on the night! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBye for now, Richard

More details of the show have just been put up on the offical site:-
Hayley will be the star of tonight?s "FRIDAY NIGHT IS MUSIC NIGHT", which will be broadcast live on Radio 2 from London?s Mermaid Theatre? The show goes out from 7.30-9.15pm and Hayley will perform Pokarekare Ana, Amazing Grace, Prayer and Both Sides Now?
You can also listen to BBC Radio 2 online by going to the Radio 2 website. If you miss the actual broadcast they keep a programme archive for you to listen to online.

Me too! This is an excellent show for Hayley to be on, on the UK's biggest single radio station. Hayley's cutting it a bit fine though, still being in the UK for the US launch next Tuesday!!! And...two of my daughters and my grand daughter are off to the USA tomorrow morning... I wonder if they will be on the same plane as Hayley? Cheers, Dave

If you missed it, here are Hayley's four songs that she sung live tonight, on Friday Night is Music Night - for your edification and delight in my personal webspace until further notice. Encoded at 64 kbps windows media, originally recorded from FM Radio, all files are 1.9MB to 2.4 MB. The announcer is none other than... Aled Jones!!! 1. Pokarekare Ana2. Amazing Grace3. Prayer4. Both Sides NowThese are now available from here - Gerrit's HWI.net index pageEnjoy!

Thanks Dave, I am duly edificated and delighted!
I hardly ever listen to Radio 2 so forgive my ignorance but is Friday Night Is Music Night usually broadcast in front of a live audience?
Well, one thing is for sure. Hayley seems to have recovered from her recent flu virus. She sounded wonderful. I just wonder if 'Both Sides Now' needed the strings. Perhaps it would have sounded better with just guitar accompaniment. (?)

Thank you kindly Gerrit... the songs are now saved for posterity! Hi Roger, yes it is always broadcast "live" and so it has been for a very long time (it must have been as I listened to it when I was a young lad! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif ) This is what the BBC website says about it: "Friday night has, in fact, been music night for half a century, first of all on the Light Programme and then on BBC Radio 2, making it the world's longest-running 'live music' programme on radio. It features the famously versatile BBC Concert Orchestra, and is frequently broadcast from theatres and concert halls throughout the UK." So... Hayley took part in a little bit of history, last night. Cheers, Dave

Thanks for the clips Dave and Gerrit! I listened to the programme live last night, but it's great to hear Hayley's songs again. I thought she sounded wonderful as usual, so I'm pleased she's recovered from the flu. I agree the strings were unnecessary on "Both Sides Now", but they sounded great on "Prayer", which was my favourite of Hayley's four songs. I must share an amusing thought with you all. Immediately after "Prayer" the orchestra played Bach's "Sheep May Safely Graze", and I wondered if this was an oblique reference to Hayley being a vegetarian! Trust me to spot that! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifThe show is always broadcast with a live audience, with some shows pre-recorded and others transmitted live. It's quite rare for the BBC to announce who the guests are going to be in advance of transmission. Bye for now, Richard

Thanks for elaborating, Dave and Richard. I have been aware of the programme for as long as I can remember but I don't think I've ever listened to it. If they include music from people like Hayley, perhaps I should!
As for the "Sheep May Safely Graze" observation, Richard.....
Baa!
Cheers, Roger

If they include music from people like Hayley, perhaps I should! Hello Roger! I listen to "Friday Night is Music Night" quite often, and I'm surprised you don't! I don't think Hayley had ever been a guest before last night, but I have heard Becky Taylor on it a couple of times. Sometimes they have special programmes featuring singers like Alison Moyet, but usually it's a good mixture of light classical pieces and show tunes. Baa baa for now!!! Richard
