Hayley stars in choir's anniversary fare Sep 30 2005
By The Huddersfield Daily Examiner
EXCITING times for Huddersfield Methodist Choir who will be joined for their Christmas concert in the town hall by the young classical singing sensation, Hayley Westenra.
Tickets for the Westenra concert are selling well with fans coming from the Wirral and Kings Lynn so far.
But as the choir enjoys celebrations for its 60th anniversary, it is well aware of other more pressing events.
Story continues
Fast approaching is the choir's next concert which is in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Relief and will be at St John's Church in Birkby on October 15 at 7.15pm. Tickets are £5, including refreshments, from Mrs A Pritchard on 01484 649811.
Part of the programme will be dedicated to extracts from Karl Jenkins' Mass for Peace, The Armed Man, but will also include choruses from Messiah, Mozart's Ave Verum, a new choral version of, Be Still In The Presence of the Lord, as well as, Some Enchanted Evening and other popular music from the shows.
There will be solo spots and Malcolm Hinchliffe will be the organist.
Before all of that, the choir is hosting an open rehearsal at Gledholt Methodist Church on Wednesday October 5 at 7.30pm when they hope to meet new faces who might want to join their ranks in what is already shaping up to be a milestone year.
Special rehearsals for the Methodist Choir's pre-Christmas performance of Messiah, begin on October 19.
Retired members and singers from other choirs have been invited along.
Edit: I used the noubbc tag in the hidden url.
