Just posted, Orla leaves Celtic Woman to persue solo career, sound familiar, that makes three, two out of the original five.

Actually that makes four, counting Hayley (Deirdre and Meav being the other 2 of the 4). Seems they learned some lessons from the last time around, since this is being announced long before the start of the upcoming tour.
I have no idea of the underlying reasons, although I'm not inclined to take the line about spending more time with one's family at face value from anybody.

This is soooo sad! Seriously I just had a bad day and this now made me depressed, lol. I really loved both Meav and Orla, and its really going to be hard to see the new DVD without them! I said, "ok" for meav, but then Orla too?? This is so wrong! And I must admit when I saw them at Radio City with Alex filling in for Lisa, I was not impressed. Maybe she'll change my mind tho when she's singing her own songs and not covering my favorite, but I'm just so sad to see the original girls leaving. Still, Orla has been amazing over the last few years and I will keep on being a fan for one. Hayley mentioned how grueling their schedule was and she only did part of a tour! Imagine what it's been like for the girls who have done every tour, every night... I think it would tire them out, and definitely would make things harder with your family. I wish Orla lots of luck! The only thought that's scaring me is that everyone has had a break except Chloe and Mareiad. Are they next??

I was just counting the original five on the first cd and dvd. Deirdre was a fill in for Maev, and Hayley just did part of the New Journey show, however Hayley is my all time favorite but unfortunately for us in the U.S. we never get to see her. That said, it is a long and tiring tour but if they do not find some way to keep them together all will be lost soon. I saw Alex and she has a great stage presence and voice, however she does not communicate with the audiance well, she seems to look at the upper balcony or ceiling instead of making eye contact with the people. It makes you feel like your not there and just watching a tv show.

in a way though since Celtic Woman is more of a show than a group they can get away with it. People will come to see the show no matter who is singing what parts just as they would go to see "phantom of the opera" or another show just because they know it's good entertainment.
but i certinaly hope they don't get rid of lisa or chloe! that would be tooo much

Hi everyone
I bought Orla's solo CD a while ago and I still listen to it with great delight. I hope she continues to bring her beautiful music in our homes as a solo artist. She was great with Celtic Woman, but she will be greater on her own!

We can only hope. So far the solo thing doesn't seem to have taken Meav too far, but we don't know what's going on behind the scenes.

We can only hope. So far the solo thing doesn't seem to have taken Meav too far, but we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. This may be simply a hard dose of reality. There are probably literally hundreds of capable singers all of whom are similarly accomplished from an objective point of view. These people are all competing in a market which isnt that large to begin with. The effect of this is that the singers are disappointed the vast amount of time, though this depends in part on the personality and expectation of the singer. It is possible to maintain a functioning career below the radar. A related side issue here is imaging and what that entails. The fact that there are always a number of competing singers at more or less the same professional level means that some people are going to be looking for other things to set them apart. Jon

I also wonder if it is a matter of money that apply's here. I'm sure they make excellent money but as opposed to what, Maev is also a lawyer and really the money issue here won't apply as I'm sure with a few solo show's in Ireland and being a lawyer might equal, and without the hassle of living on a bus and in hotels. Of course doing what you love doing is the exception but for how long. In Orla's case four years of touring, being away from her husband and home would take a tole on anyone, as for the money she teaches music in the schools and teaches harp lessons and with her fame she can demand a good fee. Also a few shows in Ireland and around the world like she used to do together with her husbands income might tip the scales anyway you look at it, I toured for just two years and it didn't last, of course I didn't have much talent and it was just to get me through school, a friend of mine stayed with it and always complained of not having a place to call home, he spent some time with Deep Purple or was it Steppenwolf I can't remember, then with The Association, then Joined Ricky Nelson and I remember when he died with Ricky Nelson in that plane crash

Dropped by both Órla's and Méav's pages and found out that Órla has recorded a Christmas Special with Méav and David Archuleta (the name sounds familiar, but don't know who he is). It will be aired on PBS on Crhistmas time, I hope we get at least few songs uploaded on youtube. Órla also mentions a collaboration with Anúna which will be filmed in Dublin and also included in the show. All this sounds as something to look forward to.

Yes, BobC attended the show. She also says on her site that she'll be recording another show in Dublin to be aired on PBS in March. Most likely to coincide with St. Patrick's Day.

I do know Meav recently, maybe a year or two ago, had her third child-a girl. I think it was her third child. So maybe she's taking a break because of that? I don't really know; it was just a thought ~Paige devotedfan xxx

Paige, I am not sure, but I think I recall reading that the official reason both Órla and Méav left was to focuse on their solo careers...
And I may disagree with what you quoted... I think Méav knew that she would not get the same exposure and popularity as a solo artist, she's been solo for a rather long time before... I think it was her choice to leave without expecting the same success...

Michal I just read on Meav's official fan site that, yes, she left to pursue a solo career but also to focus heavily on her family more. And I was wrong, she currently has only two daughters, the second, Catherine, was born not long after the A New Journey tour.
