Hi all,
I'm a fan of the Dixie Chicks, especially after what they went through for freedom of speech. However, has anyone heard anything about them since their last album, "Taking the Long Way Round"? I hope that they're okay and all.

Hi Dori,
The Dixie Chicks' official site has not been updated in a long time. The group's Wikipedia page mentioned something about them making a documentary for climate change back in April, but was probably cancelled.

Hi Dori, It's great to see here another fan of the Dixie Chicks. I have all their albums (except the 3 indie ones) and DVDs, I'm not a big fan of Country music, but love the Dixie Chicks, for me their music is quite different and new. Althought their albums are hard to find here in Portugal (I had to order some of them), Hayley's albums are even harder to find!!! Nowadays I hear a lot of Hayley, Yulia, All Angels and Will Martin... I don't hear much the Dixie Chicks...But still love their CDs. I remember particularly "Travelin' Soldier", "Landslide" , "Without You" and "You Were Mine". This is for you, I hope you enjoy it! uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vU5AYcAhvyoGreetings from Portugal, Paulo Correia

HI Paulo,
Thanks so much for that. Their rendition of the Star Spangled Banner is one of the best I have ever heard. Truly beautiful. After watching their documentary "Shut Up and Sing", I just hope they haven't given up their musical career because of politics. I really doubt that though, because they are so strong.
Joe, I've realized that about their website, and that's why I'm asking. I know Emily has gotten divorced in August, so I can understand the interval between their albums. Life happens. I just hope they're making a new album!

By the way, if you're into tongue-twisters (and who isn't?) one of the world's toughest is to say "Dixie Chicks, Gypsy Kings" ten times really fast. It can't be done!

The girls now have their own Twitter page, so updates on their new album (due to release this year, I believe) should follow.

Hi Dori and all:
Another huge fan here. I was lucky enough to see the Dixie Chicks perform in Los Angeles live with the Eagles in 2007. As it turns out, that was their last live concert to date. Because I met someone affiliated with the group I can tell you that Emily’s divorce took a huge toll and is the primary reason the group has gone underground for awhile. That, and the cumulative toll of the political backlash that continues to haunt them. Many southern radio stations still refuse to play their music.
Other than Hayley, Natalie Maines is the voice that enchants me most. And the sisters are superb musicians. They’re an amazing group and I think it’s great that you opened this thread. And by the way, I did not know about their Twitter page so thanks for bringing it to my attention. Cheers.

Hi scalboy, Yes, I knew Emily's divorce and Martie's new baby girl was the reason why they have been laying low for a while. Having said that, their Tweets look very positive, and I'm looking forward to their new album. Natalie has always been an inspiration to me. I think her stamina and ability to simply not care about what people think is not a characteristic that should be frowned upon. It takes a big person to do what she did, and I cannot admire and respect anyone more, with the exception of Hayley, of course! Especially since Hayley speaks out against the media 'tarting' up her image. I actually thought I once heard Hayley say she was a DCX fan, or that she simply listened to their music, but I cannot be sure. I know she's a Celine Dion fan (as am I), but I thought I heard her mention the DCX once, I can't remember though! Anyone remember?? :2fun: Dori

For any fans who are interested:
Dixie Chicks Begin Work on New Album Without Natalie Maines
Dixie Chicks begin work on new album without Natalie Maines. The Dixie Chicks are a popular country music trio (now a duo) that have won 13 Grammys and even won Entertainer of the Year at the CMA awards in 2000. Natalie Maines was the lead singer, so it will be interesting to see what the future of the Dixie Chicks will hold. Natalie Maines received a lot of backlash when she made remarks about President George W. Bush. During a concert in London, Natalie Maines said “Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.” Yikes. That kind of killed the Dixie Chicks dead in their tracks, and could possibly be the reason why Natalie Maines is said to not be associated with the group any more. There are no details that have surfaced about the project. Reports are unconfirmed, and the name of the Dixie Chicks new album hasn’t been released. The two remaining Dixie Chicks are sisters. Reports indicate that there isn’t bad blood between the trio. The three were together for the holidays, and seemed happy and healthy. A source close to the band says that they appear to still be an “entity” Source: CMT.com
