Thanks also to Andrew, Ron, Dean, Graham and Paulo for your kind comments, but you know it was the subject not me! It was a very unusual event and I had no idea it would turn into such an exceptional photo shoot. Hayley, as always, entered into the spirit and made it special.

Ron, it is interesting you say that about the first photo. That comment appears about once a month on the forum. I doubt anyone of us will ever take "the best ever" photo of Hayley because like the voice and like the music, there is always a better one just around the corner!

I had hoped that the American Congress cable channel C-SPAN would broadcast the event. It was funny, though, as I hurried up getting ready for work at 6:15, I heard the Westminster quarter-bells ring on the TV downstairs! Turned out it was video from Monday...of PM Brown arriving and speaking at Guildhall. Close!

Anyways, thank you all so much to those of you who attended the events at Trafalgar Square. It was very moving to see our Hayley take part as well.

I can only guess that it was the reflection of a petal that was out of the picture, or I suppose it could have been Lord Nelson!

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Trafalgar Square on Tuesday 11 November 2008. Ten thousand people stood shoulder to shoulder in a rarely silent London and together reflected in silence on the human cost of conflict.

The Two Minute Silence has been observed on Armistice Day since the end of the First World War; but with troops on active duty in Iraq, Afghanistan and other trouble spots around the world today, the Two Minute Silence remains as relevant today as ever. In 2008 it also marks the 90th Anniversary of the end of the First World War.

The Legion would also like to thank the performers who provided the prelude to the 11am observance:

• Television presenter Ben Shephard, who hosted the event
  
• Actor John Hurt, poetry reading
  
• All-boy classical group Blake, winners of Album of the Year at the Classical BRITs 2008
  
• Hayley Westenra, whose album 'Pure' turned gold in the UK in one week, performed "Songbird" and "Now is the Hour"
  
• Rolf Harris and the Welsh choir Fron performed "Two Little Boys"
  
• BBC provided the link to Cenotaph Ceremony in Whitehall

The event concluded with spectators placing poppy petals in the fountains of Trafalgar Square, as a gesture of reflection and hope.
