Hello everybody! There is a short article in today's Middleton Guardian:- www.middletonguardian.co.uk/news/s/204/204032_a_fine_setting_for_a_finale.htmlNews 16 September 2005 BLACKLEY was treated to a musical feast – and a lot of rain – when the proms came to Heaton Park. Music lovers brought along picnic hampers and wine to fortify themselves against the bad weather at the BBC Proms in the Park concert. It coincided with the Last Night of the Proms, the culmination of which was beamed into the park on a big screen live from the Albert Hall in London. The concerts held in London, Manchester, Swansea and Belfast were broadcast on BBC television and radio. Severe weather led to the cancellation of the BBC's Proms in the Park at Pacific Quay in Glasgow. During the Heaton Park extravaganza, the BBC Philharmonic, directed by Stephen Bell, played Eric Coates' Dambusters March, while other pieces included Shostakovich's Festival Overture, Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and Rimsky-Korsakov's The Flight of the Bumble Bee. New Zealand soprano Hayley Westenra sang classical favourites and there was a performance by euphonium virtuoso and BBC Young Musician of the Year finalist David Childs. Performers from Chetham's School in Manchester also played during the pre-concert. First published by the Middleton Guardian ------------------------------- Bye for now, Richard
