In view of the fact that we are all feeling the pinch, I thought I'd start "The Thrift Thread" (try saying that after a drink!) where we can exchange ideas as to save a bit of money and get through the current financial squeeze.
Now nights are drawing in you'll be switching the lights on more so make sure you get low energy light bulbs fitted. These are normally quite expensive (£2 or £3 each) compared to the ordinary ones but if you head down to Lidl for this week only you can get 5 for 50p. That's an amazing price of 10p each !! So you can help the planet as well as your pocket. With the money you save you can buy the "River of Dreams" album !
Now the oil price has fallen by half, energy bills should start heading down again but until they do, make sure you are on the cheapest tariff. The big six energy firms all have shareholders to pay, hit you with a standing charge and have tiered price bands so you pay more for the first so many kilowatt hours. This means the less you use, the more you pay !
EBICO is the UK's only not-for-profit energy supplier (no shareholders) which has a fixed unit price nomatter how much you use and no standing charges. They don't spend their customers money on advertising and don't pay commission so they don't appear on comparison websites. Since switching to them my annual bill (both gas and electricity) averages out at around £18 a week for a detached bungalow so if you are paying more than £1000 a year for your energy, give them a try. You won't regret it. I never did !! I saved around £200 a year so that'll pay for a few more concerts!!
Right guys. That's enough from me. Over to you for any more ideas !
