more free time to listen to those cds that are still un heard More time to communicate with people. We will learn how to FIX THINGS again instead of just buying a new one. Smaller carbon footprints due to reduced spending.

Hi comet, yep, that is exactly what NZ was like when we first arrived here nearly 50 years ago, the main reason why NZ'ders were so good at rebuilding and excellent maintenance services in place re trained mechanics etc was quite simply, you could not by much in the way of machinery and things back in those days. Appliances, yes, most of which were made right here, Refrigerators, deep freezers, washing machines, stoves (gas & electric) Radio,TV's (mainly assembled) Nowadays, everything is imported except of course products from Fisher & Paykel known as F&P appliances. Kiwi's were well known for either mend and make do or build their own machine to do the job, because it simply wasn't available new or not even made so they made their own. This to us when we arrived here my dad was an engineer fitter and turner working on lathes etc. Some of the jobs that came into the workshop where he worked was truly amazing.
Nowadays, there is a whole new generation of families on the farms and workshops, they have had the luxury of being able to by the appliances new now that imports have since been freed up it is a whole new ballgame.
It will be interesting to see what develops over the coming years ahead as far as NZ goes.
cheers,
Rodders.

Hi Martin, Hey we're talking about how to save money here and you are telling us how to spend more in such a difficult period! But I'm sure for those who can roll on, they'll pleasantly take your *evil* advice! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifTin

Well one benefit is that I started a food pantry in my basement, and its about 20% of its way to being stocked up. This way when I'm perusing this HWI forum and I'm hungry I can just go down there and grab a snack. Don't worry I'm not hoarding food - yet! As far as fixing things goes I totally agree with the above poster. I've got so many things that can be done with my project cars that its not even funny. Thankfully I bought just about all the pricey parts previously so I won't have to spend a boatload, just need to pull the motors and drop the new ones in. Gas is even dropping to $3.37 a gallon so that is also a benefit...

Hello Peter! You could take your car to a car boot sale and sell the whole car, not just the boot! Richard

haha hi Richard, Sometimes I do feel like giving my project cars a boot... I've got a 250 hp supercharged VW Cabriolet, and a vintage Jetta GLI 16v that I'm fixing up... restoring these old cars is like having a hole in your wallet But its too much fun making them go faster One thing I like about Hayley... her CDs are relatively cheap compared to getting heads flow benched lol...

I suppose the good thing about recession is that it makes you realise how fortunate you were before it all started. After some brief optimism following the bailout, the Dow plunged another 700 points last night. Beware the "dead cat bounce !" Then again, if I could predict the way markets were going to move, I wouldn't be here now. I'd be sipping champagne on my luxury yacht in Monte Carlo !!

I might as well post in this thread while I can still afford the broadband I thought share prices had hit the floor a few weeks ago, but it was obviously just someone else's glass ceiling and it just shattered . they may go to the basement yet ! Now , where is that jar of loose change gone ?

Another good side for Internet day traders on the Stock Exchange and Foreign Exchange markets is the high volatility of markets at present. The nimble footed among us who know what we are doing can nip in and out several times a day (and during the night i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif )while the big boys trundle along changing direction like a supertanker. There's lots of money to be made out there - but only if you've been doing it for years because there are bull and bear traps a-plenty to try and dodge and boy can they bite! Dave

Hang on folks, we are here for Hayley. With a recession the mass of Hayley's audience is likely to be most hit in terms of cutting out nonessentials and however essential Hayley may be to those of us who know her therapeutic value that doesn't put bums on seats or sell CDs. Peter S. By the by I have something nice to post on Swansea shortly--see Richard, I'm keeping my threads uncrossed!

I never thought I would see the day when buying a vehicle would be a wise investment. But these days they hold their value better than some other things I could mention like bank shares!
