Hello folks! Today is 'Big Bang Day', and there has been some speculation that the experiment in Switzerland could lead to the end of the world. There's no need to worry because the scientists have been trying out their theory all summer. Richard

Hi Richard, Actually the real high-energy collision won't take place until mid-October. Today they're just trying out the basic stuff (circulating a beam round the accelerator). So *at least* we still have more than a month to live. But I'm sure we can all live till November when we get River of Dreams! Tin

Waaah! You mean I bought tickets for the RoD tour in November and the world might end before it happens! Somehow the thought of never seeing another Hayley performance seems worse than the end of the world! But then, as a Christian, I know that I will survive the end of the world, and so, I suspect, will Hayley.

No, no,no, the world can't end till next year. We have lots of RoD concerts to attend before we can allow that to happen. By the way, I do not think that crunching some few thousands of protons at full throttle can end this world. It sure happens every moment (of course, out of man's control) and the world keeps on turning.

I hope the scientists feel £5 billion was well spent ! Hi Jeff, The one's I have spoken to are really excited about it. It is an amazing collaboration between countries, which must be a good thing. We would not have the internet as it is today if it was not for the early stages of this project to link computers together so they can process the enormous amount of data. So HWI would not exist if it was not for the scientists doing this ! So maybe it was money well spent ! Graham
