If you want "One Fine Day" buy Treasure and get a lot more Hayley besides.. I fail to see what this has to do with the Classical Brits. I don't rmrmber any of those songs....

I'm sorry to have to say that this album is clearly an example of why record companies have a bad name - it is clearly a misleading title, intended to lure some unsuspecting buyers into buying something they otherwise would not have considered.

It's just another crossover compilation, more of the same, and the main connection with the Classical BRIT Awards 2008 is that a few of the artists on it happen to have appeared at the Classical BRITS 2008. But they didn't even sing the same songs at the awards as on the album, and most of the artists on the album didn't appear there at all!

This is one of the worst examples of cynical marketing by a record company that I've ever seen and in the long run, this kind of thing, designed to hoodwink buyers into believing they are gettting something they are not, will do classical crossover and crossover artists like Hayley no good at all.

Oh, it "features all the nominated artists". Well that may enable them to stay "legal" on a technicality but it won't get them off my hook.

Hello Dave and everybody!

I'm not impressed by the way UCJ and other labels flood the market with compilation albums. Some of them do quite well in the Classic FM Chart, but I tend to ignore most of them.

This thread can go and hide on the 'Other Albums' sub-board. This album is more 'other' than most!

But the ironic thing is that as far as I remember, most classical albums that appear in the classical charts of HMV are compilations. Probably most people don't want to take the risk to buy specifically an album by a single singer lest it would disappoint them; by buying a compilation they can try out different singers. You know, just like Kinder Eggs, where you get a treat of chocolate and free toy altogether.

Hi Tin,

When I posted the details, I saw this as a worthwhile collection for the reason you mention.

Many of the singers I rather like - but not enough to buy their individual albums.

It's a pity that the title misrepresents the contents of the CDs - as songs sung at the Classic Brit Awards 2008.

I'm not rushing to buy it but I will be looking out for a bargain price.

Dave expressed more clearly what I was trying to say. And Paddy, yes, if you want this album buy it on its own merits. I for one won't bother. There is pretty well nothing on it I don't already have in some form or other, often most likely better performed.
If we were to hear the actual performances at the Classical Brits, Hayley and Jonathon, Anna etc, I might have been tempted. But not by this.

I see this CD collection is now on sale - at bargain prices from various sellers.

I hope you get your wish as regards a more authentic Classic Brits Awards 2008 CD.

Seems likely, as this collection was released a few days before the 2008 Brits.
