Hi Graeme and Martin, Graeme, Martin will probably be asleep for the next 14 hrs, so you will probably reply first One of your pictures is below and a picture of mine follows. Do you know the connection Best wishes, Graham p.s. I probably will not be able to reply until Monday, when I am back from Lincoln i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

No, Graham, I didn't know the connection but now I think I do. Your bridge pic is of the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle upon Tyne UK Dorman Long's name is on most of the steel components of Sydney Harbour Bridge & that is a connection. They made the steel & built the bridge. Both were similar to the Hells gate Bridge over the East River NY. USA. Thats all I found. Tyne Bridge was completed in 1928 & Sydney 1932. Graeme. PS Wikipedia was the quickest way to find the info....I started using image search & steel arch bridges. Very slow work. PPS I just twigged. Both are in sight of Concert Halls in which our Princess has performed. The Sage & Sydney Opera House.

Hi Graeme, Right and Right i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI did not know the details you have found out about the bridge ( interesting) but I did know that the Newcastle bridge was a prototype for the Sydney Bridge on a smaller scale. The plans were then enlarged for Sydney and were built by the same company you have found out about. And YES Hayley has performed a stones throw from both. You can see the Sage theatre in my first photo, the 'sea shell' shape building on the right beneath the bridge. The bridge joins Gateshead ( the Sage side) to Newcastle You can also see the 'blinking eye' Millennium Bridge in the background . Another angle on the Sydney bridge shows the Opera House in a very 'similar ' position to the Sage The Newcastle bridge is not far from where I live ( 30 miles) and I will see it when I see Hayley at the R.O.D. concert in Newcastle in October ! Well Done ! Best Wishes, Graham. p.s. Off to Lincoln Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeees !!!

Well, it is about time I resurrected this thread, having finally got round to sortinf out my pictures. This was interrupted because I chose to process the ones from Lincoln first, then went off to Norfolk for the weekend in the motorhome. But now I have some pictures. This is another picture of Graeme and I together, this time from my camera. I thought this notice was rather amusing! Graeme tells me that this bird is a "noisy mynah". More tomorrow! Martin

Hi Martin & all, While we were walking around South Head & had gazed at James Craig making her way out thru the Heads, this very smart ferry "Spirit of Tasmania II" moved quickly out on her way to Launceston Tasmania. and provided a very nice size comparison with James Craig. Spirit of Tasmania 30,000 GRT & James Craig 1500 tonnes loaded displacement - 646 tonnes net Graeme

Hi Graeme, Thanks for the map! I've downloaded it to go with my photos. I have over 350 to sort out. So I'll post a few more is another shot of the Harbour Bridge from the water. On the day I left I was given a conducted tour of the airport by one of the lighting engineers who had been on my course. It was raining, but I still got some shots. Is one of the runways, showing our lights (runway 16L-34R I think). This is the Airbus A380. In the rain the aircraft can kick up a lot of spray. We tried to find the best place to be beside the runway to get a picture of the rotate point. This is about the best I managed. And finally, the New South Wales coastline. I think the lake in the distance is Lake Illewarra, where Greame lives (well not actually in it) - it is much more visible in the full resolution version of this picture but I hope you can see it. Hi Martin, Great shots !!!! Of all the topics of conversation we covered during the day, we didn't touch on the Singapore Airlines A380 which leaves Sydney daily at ~ 3.30 pm. Now I can see that you were well aware of it. The Fiji Air Jumbo is run by Qantas. Love the spray in the rotation shot ...I sometimes wonder what happens to the water when it gets sucked into the turbines. Yes you're right about lake Illawarra in the distance. The other patches of water are the dam (sorry mods) reservoirs that supply water both to our district & part of Sydney's. And your lights Martin....best view would be from a pilots seat. Graeme
