Hi guys, Similar to the Search function which had once (it's solved completely now I assume?) been so annoying, I also observe there's a minor problem with the Most Recent 50 Posts function. I think no independent thread about this has been split from the 'Does Anyone Else Have This Problem' thread, so I'm doing it now. The M.R. 50 function is really very useful which saves us the trouble to click on each board individually to see what new posts have been written. However, this function doesn't seem to work so well; most of the time it either doesn't show as many as 50, or doesn't even show a single post, which requires a refresh (or a few refreshes) to make things right. It doesn't prove extremely annoying, but I still wish to raise the issue here. By the way, have anyone else ever met this problem before? Tin

Hi Tin
You beat me to it! I was just about to say something about this problem.
I have a similar problem with the 50 most recent posts function, in fact it has just happened again.
I'm getting used to it now and just look at the space bar on the right hand side of the screen. If it doesn't go to it's smalles size, I just hit the back button and start again.
There is obviously still a glitch in the system.
Best wishes Grant

Hello Tin and Grant! There is definitely an intermittent glitch in the software. When it occurs, just go back to the Home page and try again. Richard

I have had this problem intermittently as well. When it does, I just hit the "refresh" button" and it will work within a couple of tries.
I dont know if this is related or not, but I also will occasionally get a "page not found" error when I try to access the forum in general - and perhaps half the time a forum page will load, but I will get a "done, but with errors" alert in the message bar of my browser. Most of the time, this is innocuous as I cant even see what the error is.
As all of this tends to happen to me more at certain times of the day than it does others, I am guessing that - as sometimes happens with services like Proboards - they are probably straining their capacity during peak demand.
As an off-topic aside Comet, you have hit on one of the most common psychologic "illusions" there is. For example, the sun and moon both appear to be much larger near the horizon rather then overhead - but if you simply hold a ruler out at arms length and measure them they are exactly the same in both cases. Thr probable reason for this is that in the every day observation of earthbound objects, something on the horizon really is closer than something overhead and therefore the same object appears larger on the horizon. We filter the appearance of the rising or setting sun or moon with our expectation based on normal experience and see them as much bigger even though they are not.

Well I also experienced these problems and as I spend most of my time at work creating web based systems like this forum. I have a few ideas as the problems with the above: I have found that the amount of users can use this site at any one time will cause stress to the server that hosts this forum, the 404 Error mentioned above is a classic sign. I believe that the reason for the partial display of the recent 50 posts is possibility the result of one or more of the following: a) The server encountered an error while sending the data to your computers and only part of the page was displayed. b) The page is having to wait too long for response from the database. c) Hayley is very popular
The "Done with errors" is due to the javascript (a programming language that in used in websites) as I have found this forums javascript has a few errors that reacts badly with Internet Explorer but not with Firefox or Safari.

Just to confirm,
I run Mozilla Firefox and have been having the problems since the incident at Nassau,
Not showing the full 50 and peculiar results from "SEARCH"

Just to confirm, I run Mozilla Firefox and have been having the problems since the incident at Nassau, Not showing the full 50 and peculiar results from "SEARCH" Hi Comet, I get partial 'last 50' too with Internet Explorer but only sometimes. 'Refresh' usually solves the problem. The 'Search' works ok. I also have to right click 'Show Picture' for some photos, as they fail to display immediately. e.g. some of Stuart's photos from Broadlands. Paddy

Hi Paddy, I think I can explain why Stuart's photographs from Broadlands won't open.... He wasn't there! But since you mention it, I have had a similar problem with a small proportion of Steve's pictures. Most of them are fine but, perhaps, one in ten won't open. Several problems with pages not downloading fully have recently been reported to ProBoards. It is certainly not limited to the most recent posts but that is likely to be affected more often than anything else. Indications are that the servers are busy which is what Dean suggested last night. They are looking into it but, unless and until they can resolve the problem, I regret we will have to live with it. Hi Roger, Of course I meant Steve. My apologies, Steve. Sometimes the same photos that open the first time I go to the page do not open when I return to the page. I thought it was because of the width of the photos, until I found out that they were generally the same width. Perhaps the quality is too high for Proboards to handle. Paddy

Indications are that the servers are busy which is what Dean suggested last night. They are looking into it but, unless and until they can resolve the problem, I regret we will have to live with it. Roger Paddy, The reason that some pictures won't display to due partly to the servers, the internet and members connections to the net. The reason I say this is because even if you have 8 Mb broadband at home and you are on the forum at a peak time, you may be limited by pro-boards connection(s) as they are required to have a different internet connection than a home user (and often limit the speeds at time during the day to stop loss of service to anybody). if this connection is being flooded with requests, your request for one or more photos may be rejected but may be returned after another request (aka as refreshing your browser or new page). Also if a members connection is very slow the server times out. This is a server setting which states what the max time the server should take in responding to each request from a browser, if it goes over this time the server stops sending data. Also requesting the images from any image sharing site can have the same problems as previously stated. So there are a number of reasons, I apologize if it does not seem helpful, but I hope this explanation is of help to the members who have this problem Sorry for the essay.... Dean

Hi Dean,
Thanks for the explanation.
My broadband is usually quite fast.
But, as you say, sometimes some sites do take longer to open due to higher demand.
I didn't realise that parts of a webpage behaved the same way.
It doesn't bother me at all about the photos, as the right click always succeeds in opening them.
Cheers!
Paddy

Hello everybody! It looks as though our server is overloaded, because I just had a problem with the Home page cutting off at 'Market Place'. Refreshing the screen several times didn't correct it, so I logged out and logged back in again. Richard
