I am sure my next suggestion will be laughed out of here, but I think it has some merit:
I say we lose the number of posts listed for each forum member! Several among us have posted thousands of times over the years, and that's a wonderful thing for sure. But those staggering totals can be quite intimidating to newbies who want to participate but feel their contributions are dwarfed by those more prolific members.
I've had the impression for a while now that some members have set out to post as often as possible, in an effort to catch up to the more established members. Some have posted dozens of times a day! What really results is a watering down of the quality of the forum over time.
Eliminating the number of posts will take away that subtle pressure to catch up. It will also make posting more attractive to some new members who might have valuable stuff to add but are reluctant to be seen as obviously new to the boards.
I know we celebrate the numbers in here and take great pride in being prolific, but let's take a hard look at whether this is actually the best way to go.

I'm not laughing, Steve.
Your paragraph 3 convinces me.
But, 'each to his own'.
No need to 'rock the boat'?

Hi Steve At the risk of being accused of being "one of the high posters not wanting to loose such a high ranking position" I don't feel that your argument for loosing post numbers is justified. True, new members could be overawed by regular posters appearing to be 'hogging the threads' but I don't see that loosing post numbers will help that. I believe most posters are genuine and will continue to post as they always have done. New members will hopefully see long standing high posting members as a source of knowledge about the subject for which they will have joined. It also demonstrates the loyalty of high posting individuals and, in my view, that is a major aspect of the success of HWI. Hopefully, any potential new member will have looked in beforehand and should quickly discover that we are friendly and welcoming and not be put off by post numbers. I don't think I really noticed that aspect of the forum for quite some time. One of the people who actually introduced me to the forum was 'Postscript' but for ages I though his user name was 'Maestro!! Best wishes Grant

I'm a member a few months now, but I didn't see it as intimidating at first, nor do I now. I think its a good idea to see who the more experienced forum members are. I've had alot of help from them as they know the forum inside out and are able to help if you have any problems. Without the number of posts displayed, it would be difficult to see who these experienced members were.

Hi Steve, I am not laughing either because I agree with much of what you say. I also agree with those who have indicated that relatively new members may find it helpful to identify those who are particularly experienced in their forum activities - and that doesn't necessesarily have to be the Management Team. I would just point out that individual members' postcounts are vital for particular aspects of forum administration and, for that reason if no other, they must remain. Roger

That's okay Roger, and no matter what, I'd like to congratulate you in advance for reaching 6,000 posts -- and all of them worth reading! That's quite an accomplishment!

Is it just me, or did I detect a hint of sarcasm in that comment? Anyway, thats enough out of me. I'll probably be targetted now for trying to reach a massive 50 posts! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI'm glad to hear the number of posts have to remain though.

Is it just me, or did I detect a hint of sarcasm in that comment?... Methinks it's just you. No sarcasm was involved in my thinking when I rightfully acknowledged his tireless combination of quantity and quality. Trust me, the forum is much richer for those 6000 posts.

Thanks very much, Steve. Your kind words are much appreciated. Of course, I may stop at 5,999 which would make your post off topic! All the best, Roger

Congrats to Roger for having almost 6,000 posts and Irish-Hayley-Fan for having almost 50!
When I first joined HWI, I was shocked at how many members there are and how many posts they had. However, I was simply in awe and was not intimidated. (Yes, I know someone will try to make a joke of the in awe or use it against me!) While there are still many members with lots of posts, I don't feel intimidated by any of them.
But then again, I'm not new to the forum any more.
