25 Jun 2008 - Hayley is the ambassador for Classic FM's charity Music Makers



Hayley has announced her involvement as ambassador for Classic FM's charity Music Makers.

Classic FM Music Makers is the official charity of Classic FM and was set up in 2006 to raise funds to support music projects which help disadvantaged children and adults across the UK. Money is raised through on and off air events involving Classic FM listeners and corporate supporters and distributed in the forms of grants to other charity and voluntary organisations. Events such as the Christmas Auction appeal, film premieres, treks, runs and listener donations are the main source of income for Music Makers.

In its first year of operating, Music Makers gave away £146,000 to three charities - Live Music Now, Future Talent and The Princes Foundation for Children and the Arts.

Hayley will launch the charity on 10th July with Classic FM in Mayfair.

Thank you for the amazing news. Just when we start to think she can't possibly do more than she currently does to help others, Hayley finds a way to prove us wrong! She's a real inspiration for all of us and I hope her action will raise a substantial amount of funds to help those in need.

Hopefully the launch will be coveraged by Classic FM or by the press in general.

We are delighted to announce Hayley is the first official Ambassador for Classic FM Music Makers and the annual Supporter’s Reception was the perfect place to launch the partnership.

The reception was a lavish affair at The Arts Club in Mayfair, and was hosted by Classic FM’s breakfast show presenter Simon Bates.

Coming together to celebrate the good news was a variety of friends of the charity including artists such as cellist Julian Lloyd-Webber, Classical Brit Award winners Blake, and violinists Nicola Benedetti and Ruth Palmer.

Guests were entertained by an exclusive performance from Hayley and also The Raven Quartet.

We are delighted that Hayley has chosed to support Music Makers. Hayley says of the partnership " I am thrilled to be the first official charity Ambassador for Classic FM Music Makers. I have seen first hand the power which music can have in changing people's lives, and I can't wait to help all I can."

Over the next few months Hayley will be visiting some of the music therapy and education projects across the UK which Music Makers funds.

On the night Classic FM Music Makers also awarded a grant of £100,000 to The Prince’s Foundation for Children & The Arts. Chairman of the foundation Rick Wills, received the cheque from Simon and Hayley. The money will be used to fund the second year of the educational 'Music Quest' project.

Young Musicians raise money for Music Makers
The Sanderstead United Reformed Church held a mid-summer concert raising £750 in aid of Classic FM Music Makers.

The concert showcased the talent of 61 local young musicians, ranging in age from 7-19 years old.

Organiser Patrick Henderson came to our Champagne Reception to present the cheque to Classic FM Music Makers' new ambassador, Hayley Westenra.

Our huge thanks go to everyone involved for creating such a wonderful concert.

The money raised will go towards funding music education and music therapy for children and adults across the UK.

Gledholt Male Voice Choir support Music Makers

The Gledholt Male Voice Choir held a Music Festival in aid of Classic FM Music Makers, and raised an incredible £2,750.

The money was raised through a combination of collections throughout the festival, ticket sales for the Gala Concert as well as an evening dinner.

The festival epitomised the work of Classic FM Music Makers, bringing together a mix of musicians performing for the community.

The Huddersfield Junior Choirs, the Gledholt Male Voice Choir and the Kirklees Youth Symphony Orchestra all took part in the music festival.

The chairman of the choir, Raj Beadle, attended our Champagne Reception to present the cheque to Classic FM Music Makers' first ambassador, Hayley Westenra.

A huge thank you to everyone involved. The money raised will now go towards funding music therapy and education projects for children and adults across the UK.

Once I knew one of the girls was Nicola's sister I had no problem knowing who it was.

Gosh, Hayley performed in a charity event in a United Reformed Church. I would love it if she came to ours. It is called Christ Church after all.
But we can only seat about 200 at best, so I don't suppose it would be big enough! Even though we have one of the largest church buildings in the neighborhood! We do do charity concerts, but using local artists on a smaller scale.

I'm afraid you've misread the report. Hayley didn't perform in Sanderstead United Reformed Church, but she received the cheque at the Music Makers Reception.

Thanks for the clarification Richard. I have to admit that I would have expected any concert featuring a performance by Hayley to raise a much bigger sum than that! But it is nice to see that she supports these events.
