Hi Everyone,
I haven't been around recently as much as I would have liked, I have been getting ready for my trip to Switzerland via Italy on Friday. I'm flying to Milan (Bergamo) because it's about £50 cheaper, as well as quicker than flying direct to Switzerland.
You may or may not know that the football European Championships start this weekend and are being hosted in Switzerland and Austria. I have always wanted to go to a major football Championship and I decided a few years ago that I'll make Euro 2008 in Switzerland and Austria my first, even if we can't get to any games, just to experience the atmosphere in the cities and the fanzones will be worth it.
Then the England team tried to throw a spanner into the works by failing to qualify. I wasn't going to let them ruin my summer though and I am still going to go ahead as planned, and along with my Italian friend, we booked on a 'fancamp' just outside the Swiss capital of Bern, which is where the Italian National Team is based, my allegiance will be towards Italy for the finals.
The trip is not just about football though, I have never been to Switzerland before and although we will be watching every game, by day we plan to do plenty of exploring, with day trips to Bern, Basle and Zurich planned as well as other places and tourist attractions. Don't worry, my trusty camera will be coming along with me.
After 8 days in Switzerland, we will return to Italy for three days, back to the area around Lake Garda, I have been there a few times and I am completely in love with the place. The main reason though is for a concert of a different kind to what I am used to. Bob Dylan is performing an open air concert in Trento on 15th June, which should be very interesting.
I really can't wait!
I'm not sure if I will have the chance to get on much before I leave on Friday morning so if not, i'll see you all in a few weeks, when I will have all the concerts in July to look forward to!
