That tee-shirt must be priceless.

To my ear, listening to the HD feed on PBS, all of the performers sounded a bit off, and Taylor Hicks was astonishingly dreadful. So I’m willing to believe that the occasional warble was a production issue. In any event, Hayley looked stunning and certainly sounded superior to 99% of what the viewing audience is used to hearing, so I’m sure she didn’t do herself any harm with the U.S. market.
My nitpicks have more to do with what a few others have mentioned – for this event to really catapult Hayley here she needed a signature performance, something that marked it as Hayley’s and Hayley’s alone. Shenandoah just isn’t up to that task. It’s a plantation classic, and it sort of belongs to that place and time in our history. So while lovely, it is well worn and not the sort of vehicle that star turns are made of. Still, it’s probably asking too much that a Kiwi songstress put her own stamp on an American 4th of July celebration. But I’m selfish for Hayley that way.
I would add that Tim’s rehearsal photos of Hayley in that spotted dress are just terrific. She has such a comfortable beauty – I can’t help but believe this country is just waiting to fall in love with her.

Hi socalboy, well all you have to do is find some sponsors, and organize some concert tours in the US.That will demonstrate if your thoughts are correct. I really don't know how else Hayley is going to break into the US market otherwise, which is a shame really considering how successful Hayley is in other countries. cheers, Rodders CH CH NZ

She’d sing duets with Streisand and Groban, make appearances with Oprah, Dave and Leno, host Saturday Night Live, and sing the title song to the next Spielberg blockbuster. She’d accept her academy award in the red dress, her Grammy in the green one, and wear something new and spectacular when she received the Nobel Peace Prize. And in week 2…… Really, she’s got so much of what Americans typically respond to – it is a shame as you say that it hasn’t yet happened for her in the States. I think this Fourth of July show was an event worth doing, but without some follow-up it will just be a one off and I doubt much will change. I still say she needs to hook up with a major American filmmaker other than Terrence Malick. It’s her best bet for efficiently making an industry name for herself without spending her own money. And I’m betting it’s going to happen.

This July 4th appearance at the Capitol will put Hayley on the radar of various scouts in the entertainment world. The fact that she's practically a household name in other countries will not be lost on them. A few years back I penned a limerick about her US debut in reaction to someone's description of America as a possible "fickle market': Fickle market for Hayley? Oh stop! Rest assured she'll go straight to the top. She'll sell millions of CDs, Make the cover of Wheaties, And will champion classical-pop.
Our America needs someone new With a voice that comes out of the blue. Who better than Hayley To sing to us daily With her magical crossover brew?As you can see, I was wrong about a few things, or maybe just off by a few years!

After listening to those youtube clips she sounds alot better than the cable broadcast for some reason! I watched the cable feed over at my neighbors and we were just about...well not enjoying most of the other performers...well Huey Lewis was okay... and just biding our time to hear Hayley come on I wished she could have sung longer as she was the highlight for me at least. Oh and I love this pic of Hayley... kind of funny but its almost cool to see Hayley as a spectator of sorts in it Good stuff.

Hello All, Well I've made up my mind that if Hayley doesn't get the recognition in the U S that she should I'm defecting to the U K.

And see how the star is pointing directly at Hayley. It obviously knows something.
