Hi Again,
Joe, I am glad to see that you posted what Jimmy had to say about Hayley, I thought is was really good, I messed it up.
After seeing the show a 2nd time, I want to correct myself, Hayley at the end of her song did not say Happy Birthday. But, Have a Happy 4th....
And please remember American members write to your PBS station and thank them, and ask for more of Hayley.
My Best, Howard

I just watched Hayley and she did an AWSOME job. I'm in the central time zone now so the broadcast is one hour later. I have been looking forward to seeing this performance all week and she was just stunning, what else would you expect from Hayley.
I have been wondering all week if the announcer would mention if she was from New Zealand, I thought it would be nice if they would.

Hayley's performance was excellent, but all too short, and felt like it was just sort of.. there, and not part of the unifying theme of the performance.
I am certainly glad she has returned to the US, if only for this one time this year, and I'll be looking for her in the US next year, although I might come to her this fall (to see her perform, nothing else).

She was beautiful to watch, the sound wasn't very good on my TV,it almost sounded like she was nervous.Which I'm sure she was not. It was a real honor to see her on the special, made my fourth quite a bit better.I just wish she had the opportunity to sing a couple songs so people over here could really hear how great her voice really is,hopefully the one song will get a few people who never heard of her to find out more, then they will be hooked. I'm still wondering how she got the invite?

Oddly enough Ron, I almost made that comment above but was trying not to be too critical. I am pretty sure that this type of event put her a little out of her element. She likes outdoor events I am told, but I wonder if she ever sang before that many people before. Jon

Hi everyone, Loved Hayley's rendition of 'Shenendoah' on Capital Fourth and Tim's banner was absolutely awesome! I hope that many Americans watched Hayley on TV this evening because she was wonderful! Stephany

Thanks Umbobo! Here's the direct link for everyone... www.youtube.com/watch?v=2S6A3TmX_ZwAs Howard mentioned above, I would encourage all of you to contact your local PBS station to rally support for Hayley! Hello Ron, I'm not sure how Hayley got the invite. Perhaps a talent executive, etc. Let's hope more event organizers saw Hayley's brilliant performance! Joe

Re this performance of Shenandoah-
I think the microphone wasn't set right for her voice. She sounded strident throughout the performance, as opposed how smooth and pure she was on the Celtic Treasure CD.

Thanks Umbobo, Stephany, Joe & Tim (for the Banner) I had no way of watching PBS TV here in East Coast Australia but from what I see & hear from the youtube clip she gave an absolutely breathtaking performance. I think I would rate her at 11/10 !!!!!! Graeme

This is the introduction from Jimmy Smits: Once a generation, a young artist arrives on the scene, and from the moment she steps on stage or in the recording studio, you realize that you're in the presence of greatness.
Our next performer has made that kind of impact in the world of music. Her first album, "Pure", was an international sensation and has made her the fastest-selling debut classical artist in history. Since that time, she has sold over 4 million albums. She was ranked number 7 on Billboard's Top Classical Crossover Artist for 2007. All before that age of twenty.
Please welcome Hayley Westenra!Hi Joe, A great intro. Fully deserved of course, but none the less very good for the USA audience. Best Wishes, Graham

Not her absolute best but still pretty decent! I'm just glad more of us Americans got to experience her though Loved the part at the end where they zoomed out to Hayley's silhouette... and of course the accent is nice
