There's a ton of controversy over this, and animal rights activists are up in arms. Many experts say she never should have run in the race. They ran her extra hard, on the hard dirt track, to compete with the boys. Problem is, she was bred for speed, not much more.

Prehaps she should not have run in the race, but still I think she had lots of courage to do it (even though it wasn't her choice).
Anwyay, I think that the poor filly should be praised for what she did, although in the Derby she didn't come out on top. For the only filly running amongst colts, 2nd place (and even for the colts!) is quite good.
