Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada, is the living heart of traditional Scottish music in North America. In recent years, Natalie MacMaster has taken this unique Celtic fiddle music to the world in an exuberant combination of musical virtuosity and showmanship. Now Natalie MacMaster is inviting the world to return home with her to the land and the culture that raised her. With her husband Donnell Leahy – a fiddle of equal virtuosity and leading performer of the successful band LEAHY – and a group of friends from different musical traditions around the world. Natalie is the leading star in a Gala Concert that has been filmed during the Celtic Colours 10th Anniversary Festival in the Civic Center Arena in Port Hawkesbury on the Island in October 2006. Next to Natalie MacMaster this musical event, features New Zealand singer Hayley Westenra, Spanish piper Carlos Nunez, banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck, Leahy and new talent Kate Quinn (cousin of Natalie). This worldclass performance will air on PBS in 2008 across the US and be shown around the world. WLIW / WNET (New York's PBS Station) is partnering in this project with Canadian Entertainment One/Koch Entertainment and Foreign Media Group BV, based in the Netherlands. WLIW/WNET has made the decision to broaden this concert out into a film that captures the essence of Cape Breton culture and music. Hayley takes centre stage with Bela Fleck and fiddler Natalie MacMaster

Some of our posts moved from the 'Hayley in Concert' board... Hi Joe, Thanks for the fabulous pics - Hayley looks gorgeous, as always. I guess we can now all order that DVD....!!! Do you know what songs she performed at Cape Breton? Hi Stephany, Hayley performed 'Ave Maria', ***'Both Sides Now', 'The Island', 'Pokarekare Ana', and 'Hine e Hine'. I was told that 'Both Sides Now' was sung twice by Hayley, because the TV crew wanted extra close-ups! ***However, at this time, only 'Ave Maria' is the only song of Hayley's on the DVD. Ooh, I can't wait for the DVD! I love it when Hayley sings folk -- that really suits her voice, but I'm lad that she showed off her versatility by adding a bit of classical (Ave Maria) as well! I've heard a bit of Bela Fleck's music, and he's VERY talented. Thanks for sharing the photos and news! Hi
I have pre-ordered the DVD from enterprisesdvd.com for £12.99 including p&p. It is shown as region 1 so will have to wait to see if it is region 0 like the Celtic Woman DVD's. I can't find a track listing but as it has Hayley and Celtic music I know it will be great! Playing time is shown as75 minutes. Thanks for the update, Joe. That adds another DVD on my "must-buy" list

Yay! Finally I have this rare DVD! What a performance!
I must say that this DVD covers just one-fifth of the entire performance that evening. Natalie MacMaster is just an amazing musician and stepdancer. It was nice to see Natalie's band perform. Remember that all of them perform "Summer Fly" on Hayley's CD 'Treasure'. Hayley gave a top-notch rendition of "Ave Maria". I was disappointed that she didn't re-emerge on stage for a curtain call at the conclusion of the concert.
I'm quite sure that this DVD is region-free. At this time, it is only available at nataliemacmaster.com.
I can't wait for the American public to watch this next year on PBS.

Hi Stephany & Thanks Joe,
DVD delivery date has been extended so many times Stephany.
Last delivery date was "after Xmas" so don't think you're going to get your's last. (I looked this morning).
I'd imagine the production run is going to be as large as necessary to keep costs down. But then, what do I know?
Hayley wows everybody doesn't she? Natalie McM seems a lovely person herself too. Graeme

I forgot to mention that this "Ave Maria" is the Giulio Caccini composition.

Hi all,
I watched this DVD again and I noticed something strange. Hayley sings 'Ave Maria' with a stand microphone. At the conclusion of the song, Hayley is expressing her thank-you's, then there is a quick cut to the audience. But next, Hayley is seen with a hand-held microphone, Bela Fleck is behind her, along w/ Natalie and her band (nearly as pictured in the better-quality photo above). A bit of bad editing there. I would love to know what that song was.

Hi Joe Thanks for the info about this dvd, I really think I had better order it. Shame about the bad bit of editing, I guess these things happen sometimes. It seems it would be best to order it directly from Natalie's website - I'll have a look Best regards Mark
