Here are some of our posts on the upcoming lunar eclipse, copied from various locations on the forum. They are all quoted here, unchanged. Just to synchronise the HWI world, I want everyone to listen to "Who Painted the Moon Black" on Wednesday, February 20th @ 10:10 Eastern Standard Time.
It'll be worth it, trust me. Hi Steve,
You mean orange?
5 hours 'later' in GMT, 3 am +
Cheers, Dave Full details from NASA.
Richard Full details from NASA. Richard Thanks Richard
Unfortunately, I'll probably be sleeping
Best wishes GrantActually I believe it works the other way round, it will be 3pm in the UK! If anyone has a problem it will be me since I shall be in San Francisco on a business trip. 7am there, but I might be awake, you never know with jet lag! Trouble is I will have no way to play Hayley's music!
Martin Actually I believe it works the other way round, it will be 3pm in the UK! ...
The eclipse will be visible in the UK in the early morning (Thursday, 21 Feb) -- 3 a.m.
As mentioned on another thread, look for the big Lunar Eclipse on Wednesday night/Thursday morning! See details here: Lunar Eclipse.

It's all right for you on the other side of the Atlantic, Northern Lights! The eclipse certainly won't get me out of bed at 3 o'clock in the morning! Richard

Did you see the shiny moon turn into a black balloon As its glow turns into red, just before I go to bed. I got some good photos of the lunar eclipse and some pencil drawings I'll have to share! Joe

. . Also, I sketched the Moon in its various colours from 0030 GMT to 0700 GMT and at key points during the eclipse. View my work HERE.

I watched it! Most awesome! And as long as we're on the subject of astronomy, here's me being a smart-alek again in the Guardian: click.

Heh
I am minded of something that happened 20 or so years ago when the company I was working for was involved in a big local charity drive. My job was to solicit candy donations from the companies which make and sell them. One day, I walked into my office and my secretary, with a very strange look on her face told me that I had a call waiting on line 2. I asked who it was, and she said it was "Cindy, calling from Mars".
And I thought my long-distance bill was high.....

Well, I was actually over near San Francisco at the time, and went outside to look a couple of times, but it was cloudy. But they were showing live pictures on TV relayed from a nearby mountain which was above the clouds. Apparently there will not be another total lunar eclipse visible in the USA until 2010.
I must go and try to sleep now. As the Beatles sang I "didn't get to bed last night"
