There are other famous people who were better known by stage names. See if you recognize the following people: Maria Kalogeropoulis Ernest Evans Micheal Dumble-Smith Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr. Robert Allan Zimmerman Jon Hi Jon, Thank you for including one which, for me, is easy. Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr = John Denver. Roger

I'm surprised only Roger has had a go at this! I also got John Denver. Another easy one for me - Robert Allan Zimmerman = Bob Dylan. I'm guessing but is Maria Kalogeropoulis Maria Callas? Time to put us out of our misery Jon By the way, the middle/street name thing - I would currently be 'Anthony Hamilton' Best wishes Grant

If they are stage names I suspect it is precisely to draw attention! A promotional gimmick. What is interesting is how few of these 'odd' names ever make it to prominence--a clear statement that talent will out and if it ain't there in the first place it just ain't there in the last place--or anywhere else in between! Peter S. One certain exception Peter is Englebert Humperdinck ! Martin

Of course there is always Maurice Micklewhite who is better known as Michael Caine!

Before this thread is locked away for posterity, there was a well known American singer in the fifties called Conway Twitty. His real name was Harold Jenkins so you can see why he changed it for the stage!! The interesting fact is that his stage name was taken from the names of two towns in Arkansas. Not many people know that ! Martin

I remember a girl at school during my teen years whose name was Dale Charmayne Ulyster Rocky-Flintstone (I jest not!) I believe she was descended from a native American family. Funny thing was, everyone (except teachers) always addressed her by her full name. Guess that's why I still remember it 40+ years on! Best wishes Grant

I also figured that Henry John Deutschendorf was a gimme - though you may be surprised Roger at how many fans dont know that. And Grant did correctly state that Robert Allan Zimmerman was Bob Dylan Which leaves no 2 and no 3..... No 2 is tough because it was so long ago, and I also dont know how popular he was outside of America - but Ernest Evans = Chubby Checker However, I am surprised that the folks in the UK didnt get no3 - assumimng of course that the source I ran across this from was correct - I am no particular fan of Mr Dumble-Smith who I felt dragged down the Phantom quite a bit If the source is correct we all know him as Michael Crawford. Jon That appears to be correct Jon except that, according to his autobiography which for some inexplicable reason happens to be in front of me, it is spelled Michael Patrick Dumbell-Smith. Roger

Hello Grant and everybody! I've just done some research, and my question may be slightly misleading. It appears Hiram K. Hackenbacker is only an alias, but the answer I'm looking for is still the same! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifRichard

"Engelbert Humperdinck" sure worked for Gerry Dorsey! Does anyone believe he would've had all that success with his own humble name?
