A recent survey showed that the majority of classical music fans prefer to download music from the web as apposed to buying CDs. There has been some mention of Itunes and 7Digital on these pages, plus debate over the sound of CDs, so I thought it would be interesting to see where music purchases are going to. So do you go to a music shop and usually pay full price (with free finger marks on the disc from the shop assistant. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif). Or do you get your CDs from a website at discounted prices, delivered in perfect condition. Or maybe you download your music for storage convenience, plus the fact you only have to buy the songs on the album you want. Or are you one of the few (like me) who subscribes to a music download store for a monthly fee and download and transfer as much music as you want(but still buy the odd CD).

Interesting thread in view of the changes happening at the moment. I guess I'm old fashioned, but I still buy CD's (though the only "non Hayley" one I've purchased recently is All Angels!) I like to have something tangible to hold rather than some gismo where the only idea as to what I'm looking at are a few words on a screen! I do mainly shop around though in the hope of getting a good price. Grant

Hi Jon! I used to buy my music in shops. I still do but those shops sometimes don't have the CD's I like. An example for this is Hayley's CD Odyssey. The CD was released in the UK in September 2005 and in Germany half a year later in April 2006! You can imagine that I didn't like to wait that long. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif So I bought this CD on Amazon.de Amazon is generally a good address for CD's you hardly find in a shop. Sometimes I also download music from the internet. Especially if I like to buy only a few songs and not a whole album. iTunes is a good store for that. Unfortuneately I can't download music with iTunes which isn't released in Germany. Thomas

Interesting question Jon. I didn't put a vote in because I can't really say I buy music just in one way. If I happen to be in a bookstore (mostly Borders) and see--or maybe a better word is hear since I always use the scanner thing to listen to it first--a CD I like I usually buy it. But I also buy CDs off of the Internet a lot also (mostly because of the cost savings in comparison to going to Borders). And I also use iTunes on regular basis. Recently I have been using it more in efforts to use up gift certificates that I have had sitting on my desk for a while. Otherwise, I use to just get one or two songs off of an album (though I have been getting annoyed with iTunes as they don't let you download songs that are on other countries' version of iTunes, I use 7digital to get around that with Great Britain releases). I usually avoid iTunes if I particularly like an artist because I want the actual CD so I can look at the artwork. I feel like you are missing something if you don't get to see this. Katie

Thanks for the poll, Jon! I'm very old-fashioned, so I still buy my music on CDs from shops. Usually I buy them in HMV, which is not far from the Internet Café, but I sometimes use Virgin Megastores too. Best Wishes, Richard

Hi Jon I always buy cd's as I like to play them in the car (especially Hayley's as they relax me!!) as well as at home. As to where I buy them then it's normally where I can get the best deal. Sometimes at the high street chains and sometimes off the net.
Best wishes Martin

Hello comet, I lost an auction on eBay just yesterday! If I'm not mistaken, you were the winner! They were selling the Odyssey 4-trk promo plus the 'What You Never Know' promo CD (w/ two versions). Enjoy your purchase ! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifAs far as buying elsewhere, I always use the net. Amazon and HMV are good. I don't download songs; only if they are samples. Joe

Hi Jon, I love buying CDs as I prefer having a collection of "tangible" items in my music collection- i.e. CDs (as opposed to MP3 files) with inserts which I can also request Hayley to sign! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI like to keep all of my used concert tickets as souvenirs. I store these within the CD cases too! I'm sure there must be others who do the same? i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif Regards, Andrew

I also buy CDs from the shop. Although it is more convenient to buy from the internet, I like the feeling of holding a real CD. Also, online stores don't have the booklets and the covers of CDs.

Funny that you guys mentioned eBay. I saw how high those were going and wondered if somebody from HWI was bidding. Seems that they were. (Side note off of that. There are some Hayley promo materials available here (a A4 sized promo booklet): www.vinylexchange.co.uk/Product.asp?Action=Artist&ArtistID=140122&artist=HAYLEY%20WESTENRA&p=a&GenreId=530. I haven't used this company, but I though you avid Hayley collectors might be interested in this, as I haven't seen something like this on eBay for quite some time.) To the point of ticket stubs, I also save mine (no Hayley ticket stubs yet though, still trying to work on that). In fact, just the other day I came upon a Hanson (I'll admit that I was a Hanson fan, I was 13 or 14 at the time) ticket stub from 1998 that I saw in Hershey, PA. That ticket stub brought back lots of memories from that time period in my life (oh, the joy of being in middle school). Anyway, to get on subject I realized that although I purchase my music from so many different places, all of the music eventually makes it way into iTunes. With the exception of when I am traveling, I don't really use my iPod too often, but I bring up iTunes on my computer a lot when I am studying and put the suffle on. Katie

I would much prefer to buy my CDs from a store but I have ordered many on the internet. I would never download anything unless there was no other way of obtaining the song/album. Call me old fashioned if you like (okay, don't shout too loud!) but you can't beat the tangible item with information printed on the insert.

I hope those who download make sure they have good ba ck-ups against a systems failure. Then, there is the insurance problem. But I suppose they do have their credi card file to prove the purchase in the event of more natural disasters. Peter S.
